Seahawks Injury Update: Brandon Mebane out for the year with torn hamstring

By on 11/11/2014 03:49:00 PM

The Seattle Seahawks secured a strong win at home against the struggling New York Giants, but the bad news caught up with them Tuesday. Nose tackle Brandon Mebane is likely out for the season after suffering a torn hamstring in Sunday's game.

ESPN reports that the Seahawks have not yet confirmed the extent of the injury, but that sources told both ESPN and Fox Sports that Mebane was deciding whether or not to have surgery. A minimum of eight weeks recovery time is necessary without surgery.

The loss is a big one for the Seahawks. Mebane has consistently been one of the best players on the Seahawks defensive line and this season in particular has been one of the best of his career. He often takes on two blockers and is a huge factor in the Seahawks only allowing 79.8 rushing yards per game. This is his ninth year with the Seahawks, making him the longest tenured player on the team.

Mebane will likely be placed on injured reserve, while the Seahawks bring in another defensive tackle for depth purposes. They worked out Michael Brooks on Tuesday. Kevin Williams, Jordan Hill and Tony McDaniel will likely see more time in Mebane's place.
