Spurs Injury Update: Tiago Splitter without timetable for return

By on 11/03/2014 11:30:00 AM

The San Antonio Spurs dropped to 1-1 on the season following a 94-89 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday. Tony Parker lead the Spurs with 19 points and six assists, while Tim Duncan added 16 points and nine rebounds. The Spurs were without center Tiago Splitter for the second straight game due to back and calf issues and there is no timetable for his return.

As reported by Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News, coach Popovich said that Spurs' doctors think Splitter's back has affected his calf. It appears it could be a while before Splitter returns to a game considering that there is no indication as to when he will be cleared to practice.

In any event, Splitter's absence has been felt on the defensive end of the court, as the Mavericks and Suns big men scored a combined 66 points over the past two games against the Spurs.

With Splitter out, Boris Diaw should continue to see extended playing time. Diaw, in his 12th NBA season, is averaging 9.1 points and 7.5 rebounds in 31 minutes per game this season.

Splitter averaged 8.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in 59 games last season. The veteran center, in his fifth season from Brazil, has career averages of 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 259 games.
