Steelers Injury Report: Troy Polamalu, Ryan Shazier, Ike Taylor

The Pittsburgh Steelers, coming off a loss to the New York Jets, have lost three of their starting defensive presences this week. Pittsburgh Steelers starting SS Troy Polamalu (knee), LB Ryan Shazier (ankle and knee) and CB Ike Taylor (forearm) have all been ruled out for Monday night's game against the Tennessee Titans.

The news was reported by the Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals SB Nation wesbites Behind the Steel Curtain and the Cincy Jungle.

For rookie Ryan Shazier, his inaugural season has been noteworthy, as he has recorded 26 combined tackles with one pass defended and one tackle for loss.

According to Behind the Steel Curtain, "Shazier has been in and out of the lineup with a knee and an ankle injury. He'll miss his sixth game of the season Monday. Sean Spence has been starting opposite Lawrence Timmons in the Steelers' base defense and Vince Williams has been handling the role in nickel packages."

The loss of Shazier will be big as the season rolls on, but there is hope that he will return soon enough. Injuries are not the way to start an NFL career.

As for veterans Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu, they will be missing time in the secondary. Taylor has been out since week three due to an arm injury.

According to the Cincy Jungle, "As for Taylor, he's been out since Week 3 after breaking his forearm vs. the Carolina Panthers. " Taylor has recorded eight tackles along with two passes defended this season. Troy Polamalu on the other hand is going to miss Monday night's game due to an unfortunate knee injury suffered in week nine.

According to the Cincy Jungle, "Polamalu suffered a knee injury in that Week 9 win over the Baltimore Ravens." He and Taylor will most likely be replaced by FS Will Allen and CB Antwon Blake.

These three losses are huge for a Steelers defense that ranks 15th in the league in passing and 12th in the league in rushing defense. Pittsburgh hopes to get these players back soon as they are in a legitimate race for the AFC North.
