Reigning NBA MVP Kevin Durant may be able to return Friday against the New York Knicks, as reported by Oklahoma City Thunder writer Darnell Mayberry. This news comes on the heels of the Thunder waiving guard Sebastian Telfair, likely because the team expects one of its injured stars to return in the near future.

Durant has recently participated in a few contact drills during practice, providing hope for Oklahoma City. The Thunder are 4-12 this season and will need both Durant and Russell Westbrook to produce when they return. In the grueling Western conference, about 45 wins will get you the eighth seed in the playoffs, meaning Oklahoma City will have to win over 60% of its remaining games to have a shot at making it into the postseason. The return of 'KD' this weekend will help the cause, however as of now the chances of him returning are cloudy.
Veteran forward Lance Thomas out of Duke has moved into the starting small forward position in Durant's absence, however has not produced very much as a starter. Thomas, a natural power forward, is averaging just 6.3 points and 4.1 assists per game this season, a far cry from the numbers that Durant usually posts. While Oklahoma City surely did not expect Thomas to play as well as Durant, the numbers are disappointing nonetheless.
