Vikings Injury Report: Jerick McKinnon, Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Jennings

By on 11/30/2014 09:45:00 AM

Heading into their matchup today against the Carolina Panthers, the Minnesota Vikings will be forced to start yet another player at running back, as Jerick McKinon will be sidelined with a back injury.

McKinon did not practice all week after hurting his back lifting weights. He's listed as "doubtful," but reports are that he has already been ruled out for today's game. Look for the Vikings to use some combination of Matt Asiata, Joe Banyard, and possibly even the newly signed Ben Tate, in McKinnon's absence.

Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson got in a limited practice on Friday after being held out on Wednesday and Thursday and is listed as probable to play. Fellow receiver Greg Jennings was a full participant in practice all week and is also listed as probable.

The Panthers have a weak run defense so the potential for the Vikings to have success on the ground today is high, but because of the uncertainty of who will handle the bulk of the carries, this is a backfield to avoid for fantasy purposes.

Patterson has been passed by Charles Johnson on the Vikings' depth chart, meaning he will only play in three-receiver sets and on special teams, making him also a player to avoid in fantasy. Jennings should also not be considered in fantasy as Johnson has become quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's favorite target as of late, compiling 10 more targets than Jennings over the last two games. Also, the game flow suggests that the Vikings will lean on the running game, especially if they are able to get an early lead.
