Falcons Injury Update: Julio Jones suffers hip injury

By on 12/09/2014 10:40:00 AM

After trailing 31-7 at halftime, the Atlanta Falcons outscored the Green Bay Packers 30-12 in the second half before falling just short of a win Monday night. Wide receiver Julio Jones had 11 receptions for a franchise-record 259 yards and a touchdown in the game, but he left late in the fourth quarter with a hip injury and did not return.

Jones said he did not know the extent of his injury after the game, but at this point we shouldn't expect any specific public comments about it. For what it's worth, Falcons' head coach Mike Smith essentially confirmed after the game that the initial diagnosis of Jones' injury was unclear.

A short week adds some concern about Jones ability to be at full strength for next Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, so his practice participation and ultimate designation on Friday's injury report will be worth monitoring. At this point he should be expected to play in Week 15, but things could change over the next few days.

The Falcons can still win the NFC South, so the team and Jones' fantasy owners are surely hoping he is available going forward.
