Heat Injury Update: Luol Deng unsure when he will return

By on 12/05/2014 11:45:00 AM

The Miami Heat enter tonight's game against the Milwaukee Bucks trying to get over the .500 mark. At 9-9, the Heat sit in third place in the Southeast Division, three and a half games behind the Washington Wizards. It may be difficult for the Heat to stay competitive for the time being, as starting small forward Luol Deng is still out and there is no timetable for his return.

I reported yesterday that Deng injured his right hand during Friday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He was to be re-evaluated yesterday to determine the extent of his injury and he status for the upcoming road trip was up in the air.

An update on Deng, as reported by Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel,  is that his hand injury will most likely cause him to miss time, despite X-rays results that came back negative. Deng continues to have swelling in his bruised bones on his thumb an index finger.

Deng is uncertain how much time he'll miss.
"I wish I could tell you. I wish it would have made more improvement today than [Wednesday], but there's still some swelling in it. But we'll see. I'm still going to take it day by day, try to be back as quick as I can."
Expect James Ennis, Danny Granger and Shawne Williams to see additional minutes on the court in Deng's absence.

Deng, in his 11th NBA season out of Duke, is averaging 13.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. The veteran has played for the Bulls and Heat and has career averages of 16 points and 6.3 rebounds in 694 games.
