I reported yesterday that Deng injured his right hand during Friday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks. He was to be re-evaluated yesterday to determine the extent of his injury and he status for the upcoming road trip was up in the air.
An update on Deng, as reported by Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, is that his hand injury will most likely cause him to miss time, despite X-rays results that came back negative. Deng continues to have swelling in his bruised bones on his thumb an index finger.
Deng is uncertain how much time he'll miss.
"I wish I could tell you. I wish it would have made more improvement today than [Wednesday], but there's still some swelling in it. But we'll see. I'm still going to take it day by day, try to be back as quick as I can."Expect James Ennis, Danny Granger and Shawne Williams to see additional minutes on the court in Deng's absence.
Deng, in his 11th NBA season out of Duke, is averaging 13.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. The veteran has played for the Bulls and Heat and has career averages of 16 points and 6.3 rebounds in 694 games.
