Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley, despite missing the last four games with a sprained knee, still believes he will return this season, according to detroitlions.com senior writer Tim Twentyman.
Fairley originally suffered the injury during the Lions Oct. 26th game against Atlanta and has not been able to practice since the injury. However, Fairley has kept his weight under control (actually lowering it from 305 to 292 pounds) and has been able to avoid surgery.
Although his contract expires at the end of the year, the former first-round pick claims that is not a factor in his desire to return to play. If he cannot take the field again this year, Detroit will roll with a combo of rookie Caraun Reid and long-time veteran C.J. Mosley opposite Pro Bowler Ndamukong Suh.
