Pacers Injury Update: Ian Mahinmi to miss the next 6-8 weeks with left plantar fascia

The Indiana Pacers entered Monday's game against the Atlanta Hawks coming off a 102-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Friday. At 7-13, the Pacers sit in fourth place in the Central Division, five games back. The Pacers got bad news on the injury front, as backup center Ian Mahinmi will miss up to two months following a foot injury.

I reported back on October 18 that Mahinmi, who started training camp late due to a left shoulder injury, left the previous night's game with a right shoulder injury. But now a new injury is plaguing Mahinmi and in fact will keep him out of action for quite some time.

According to the IndyStar Sports Twitter account,
With Mahinmi sidelined, expect Shayne Whittington to step up and see time as the backup to starting center Roy Hibbert. Whittington is averaging 2.5 points in just 6.3 minutes in six appearances this season.

Mahinmi, in his seventh NBA season, is averaging 4.9 points and 5.8 rebounds, in 18.3 minutes per game off the bench. The veteran center from France has played for the Spurs, Mavericks and Pacers and has career averages of 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 326 games.
