Pistons Injury Update: Jodie Meeks could return for tonight's game against the Phoenix Suns

Coming off of a 2013-2014 regular season in which the Detroit Pistons drastically under-performed compared to expectations, the Pistons front office made substantial moves in the summer to re-energize the team and their fan base by hiring Stan Van Gundy as head coach and bringing in free agent guard Jodie Meeks to help spread out the offense. Unfortunately, following their loss Tuesday to LaMarcus Aldridge and the Portland Trailblazers, the Detroit Pistons now enter tonight's match-up against the fast-paced Phoenix Suns running the risk of tying a franchise record with 14 consecutive losses.

On the injury front, the Pistons may receive a much needed boost in the back court with the return of guard Jodie Meeks hoping to make his regular season debut for the Pistons after being out to start the year following a stress reaction in his lower back. The injury was originally reported here by KKauffman1969. According to Vincent Ellis of

If Meeks is unable to suit up against the Phoenix Suns, look for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to continue getting extra minutes in his absence.

Meeks was brought in during the off-season to help improve the Detroit Pistons perimeter play in the backcourt following the departure of free agent Rodney Stuckey, who signed with the Indiana Pacers, and the retirement of fan-favorite Chauncey Billups.  Last season Meeks shot 40% from deep while averaging 15.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest. For his career the 27 year old guard out of Kentucky is averaging 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
