Rockets Injury Update: Howard will play versus Nuggets

By on 12/13/2014 05:00:00 PM

The Houston Rockets enter tonight's game against the Denver Nuggets with a 17-5 record, good for second in the Southwest Division. They have been impressive despite the absence of All-Star center Dwight Howard, who has missed half the season with knee issues. The good news for the Rockets and bad for the Nuggets is that Howard will return to action tonight.

Our own Bill Simpson reported on December 10 that Howard, who had missed the previous nine game with knee soreness, would miss the game against the Golden State Warriors.

According to, Howard will be ready to play tonight following an 11-game absence from the lineup. The knee soreness initially started against the Memphis Grizzlies on November 17 and was a late scratch from the game against the Lakers two nights later. But Howard is now ready to go and thankful to get back on the court.
"Nobody wants to sit on the bench in a suit and watch his team play. You want to get out there in the action. But I'm happy to be back out there, thankful. I thank God for just allowing me to be able to play again. I'm just happy to play again. That's the big thing."
Howard is averaging 18. 8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game this season. The veteran center, in his 11th NBA season, has played for the Magic, Lakers and Rockets and has career averages of 18.3 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per game.
