UPDATED: Cardinals Injury Update: Adam Wainwright has cartilage trimmed


The Cardinals have known for a while that right-hander Adam Wainwright's elbow was not 100%, and the team already planned to limit his work in 2015. After seeking a second opinion, Wainwright had a surgical procedure on his right elbow on Friday, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
UPDATE: 10/24/2014 5:15 p.m. The Cardinals clarified that it was cartilage around Wainwright's elbow, not his ligament, that was cleaned up.

Royals Injury Update: Omar Infante feeling better with strong painkillers


Royals second baseman Omar Infante has been dealing with shoulder pain for months now and according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star, began taking oral doses of the pain-killing drug Toradol during the ALCS. As noted by Craig Calcaterra of Hardball Talk, Toradol is both powerful and controversial.

Tigers Injury Update: Miguel Cabrera has surgery for bone spurs, stress fracture


Generally regarded as the best hitter on the planet, two-time MVP Miguel Cabrera underwent surgery to repair bone spurs in his right ankle and a stress fracture in his foot, reports Chris Iott of mlive.com. The Tigers announced that the first baseman will be reevaluated in late January, about three weeks before the start of spring training.

Twins Injury Update: Chris Colabello to have troublesome thumb examined


The Minnesota Twins struggled to their fourth consecutive season with 70 or less wins. The downfall for the Twins was a pitching staff that was 29th in the Major Leagues in ERA at 4.57. The offense was a bright spot, ranked seventh in the league in runs scored. One player who could make an impact next season is Chris Colabello, who played much of the season with an injured thumb, which is scheduled to be examined.

Athletics Injury Update: Brandon Moss recovering from hip surgery


The Oakland A's won 88 games during the 2014 season, but lost in the AL Wild Card game to the Kansas City Royals. The A's were fourth in runs scored and third in ERA. Injuries were not a major factor this season, as six players appeared in over 120 games. There were some injury concerns though, as Brandon Moss battled hip injuries, but word has it he is recovering nicely from surgery and should be running in a few months.

Giants Injury Update: Tim Lincecum to undergo treatment


Giants right hander Tim Lincecum, who left a relief appearance in Game 2 of the World Series in mid at-bat on Wednesday (video here and below), will undergo treatment and further evaluation on his lower back, reports Janie McCauley of the Associated Press.

Dodgers Injury Update: Dan Haren undergoes shoulder surgery


The Los Angeles Dodgers won 94 games and the National League West division title in 2014, but lost to the Cardinals in the NLDS in five games. Entering the off season ranked sixth in the Major Leagues in ERA and runs scored, the Dodgers have little to do this winter to improve the team other than stay healthy. On the injury front, pitcher Dan Haren underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder and should be ready by Spring Training.

Giants Injury Update: Tim Lincecum exits World Series with injury


With two outs in the eighth inning, former starter Tim Lincecum exited game two of the World Series with what originally appeared to be a leg injury.  This rough season has continued. 

Yankees Injury Update: C.C. Sabathia expects to pitch full season in 2015


The New York Yankees finished the 2014 season with 84 wins, their lowest win total since they won 79 when Derek Jeter was a 21-year old phenom back in 1995. At 20th in the Major Leagues in runs scored and 18th in ERA, the Yankees look to improve in both areas next season in order to compete for a playoff spot in the American League. One player who could help solidify the staff is C.C. Sabathia, who missed much of this past season with injury. The good news is Sabathia is expecting to pitch a full season in 2015.

Red Sox Injury Update: Rusney Castillo day to day in AFL with bruised thumb


The Boston Red Sox won just 71 games in 2014 following a World Series Championship in 2013. At 18th in the Major Leagues in runs scored and 23rd in team ERA, the Red Sox need improvement in both phases of the game next season to compete for a playoff spot. One player the Red Sox are keeping an eye on this offseason is Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo, who is currently listed as day-to-day with a bruised thumb.

Royals Injury Update: James Shields passed a kidney stone


Right hander James Shields, who is scheduled to start Game 1 of the World Series, struggled for several days with a health problem that was only revealed in a press conference after the Royals swept the Baltimore Orioles in the ALCS, according to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.

Cardinals Injury Update: Jon Jay, Adam Wainwright, Michael Wacha


The St. Louis Cardinals won 90 games and a National League Central division title this season, but lost in five games in the NLCS to the San Francisco Giants. The Cardinals look to improve upon an offense which was 23rd in the Major Leagues in runs scored. One player that figures to be a big piece to the puzzle is center fielder Jon Jay, who had surgery on his left wrist. There are also injury updates on pitchers Adam Wainwright and Michael Wacha.

Mariners Injury Update: Taijuan Walker done for the AFL


Although Taijuan Walker was scratched from his Arizona Fall League start, MLB.com's Greg Johns is reporting that the Seattle Mariners top prospect is completely healthy.  He has simply decided that he will not to pitch anymore this fall.

Giants Injury Update: Tim Lincecum dealing with stiff neck



Right-hander Tim Lincecum didn’t go through a full workout Saturday because he woke up with a stiff neck, according to Alex Pavlovic. However, Lincecum is on the roster for the World Series and the Giants don't think his discomfort is serious.

Royals Injury Update: Yordano Ventura says 'shoulder is awesome'


Following his exit in Game 3 of the ALCS with shoulder tightness, concerns began about Kansas City Royals starter Yordano Ventura's availability for the remainder of that series. Now that he has had extra rest, Ventura is a sure bet to pitch in the World Series, which begins Tuesday night.

Royals Injury Update: Kyle Zimmer leaves AFL start after one inning


Kyle Zimmer has the talent to be the next star pitcher for the Kansas City Royals.  He is currently pitching in the Arizona Fall League and is showing why he is such a highly rated prospect as he leads the league with 14 strikeouts after his first two starts.  Today he made his third start of the fall and lasted only one inning before being removed.  Bernie Pleskoff is reporting that Zimmer's manager said he appeared to be 'tight' and didn't want to take any chances with him getting hurt.

Rangers Injury Update: Tanner Scheppers 'feels great' in bullpen session


Although he had never started a game in his major league career, Tanner Scheppers was named the Texas Rangers opening day starter to start 2014. Being named the day one starter was the high point of his season.  He has hit hard in four starts and then moved back to the bullpen.  Later elbow troubles, landed him on the disabled list.

Tigers Injury Update: Jose Iglesias should be ready for spring


When Alex Gonzalez is a team's best option to start at shortstop on opening day, it could be a long year at the position.  But that is the situation that the Detroit Tigers were placed in when starting shortstop, Jose Iglesias went down with injuries to both shins that caused him to miss the entire season.

Red Sox Injury Update: Mike Napoli will have surgery to address sleep apnea


Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli will undergo surgery for sleep apnea on November 4 according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.  Despite missing significant time in the 2014 season for injuries to his finger, toe and back, this is the only surgical procedure scheduled.

Cardinals Injury Update: Yadier Molina not able to pinch hit


The St Louis Cardinals suffered a loss to the San Francisco Giants last night 6-3, ending their bid for the World Series.  The Cardinals only won one of the five games played during the American League Championship Series due in large part to the oblique injury suffered by star catcher Yadier Molina during game two Sunday.
