Tigers Injury Update: Miguel Cabrera exits early with ankle problem


Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera left in the fourth inning of Saturday night's game with the Chicago White Sox after hitting an RBI ground-out. Cabrera appeared to run hard though the first base bag but then pull up as he crossed it. Don Kelly moved from third to first when the Tigers took the field in the bottom of the fourth, and Nick Castellanos came in to play third.

Marlins Injury Update: Bryan Morris out with groin strain


The Miami Marlins enter the second game of a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves having lost 5-2 on Friday to drop their record to 65-68 on the season. At 11 games out with 29 games left to play, the Marlins are looking to work their way back to .500 by season's end. In order to do so, they will need to improve on a pitching staff that is 20th in the league in ERA. The bullpen has taken a recent blow with the absence of Bryan Morris with a groin strain.

Padres Injury Update: Joaquin Benoit unavailable due to shoulder soreness


The San Diego Padres will once again be playing without their right handed pitcher Joaquin Benoit.  As first reported by Sports Injury Alert on August 18, Benoit has been bothered by a sore right shoulder. 

Cubs Injury Update: Anthony Rizzo expected to return Monday


Chicago Cubs slugging first baseman Anthony Rizzo sat out again Saturday against the Cubs' most-heated rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, making four straight games that he has missed. Rizzo has tightness in his lower back, and the Cubs expect him to miss the entire weekend series. He could return on Labor Day, September 1, when the Cubs host the Milwaukee Brewers in a Wrigley Field afternoon game.

Cardinals Injury Update: Shane Robinson undergoes season-ending surgery


The St. Louis Cardinals fell to the Chicago Cubs on Friday by the score of 7-2. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 71-62 on the season, a game and a half behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. On the injury front, reserve outfielder Shane Robinson had shoulder surgery on Thursday and will miss the rest of the season.

Dodgers Injury Update: Hanley Ramirez removed with leg stiffness


The Los Angeles Dodgers again lost Hanley Ramirez last night as he was removed with leg stiffness.

Athletics Injury Update: Coco Crisp exits after wall collision


Oakland Athletics center fielder Coco Crisp left Friday night's game with the Los Angeles Angels after crashing into the wall in an attempt to rob Chris Iannetta of a home run. Initial indications are that Crisp sustained a neck strain. It took a few minutes for Crisp to gather himself, but he eventually walked off the field under his own power.

Rays Injury Update: Desmond Jennings scratched with sore knee


The Tampa Bay Rays dropped to 65-70 on the season following an 8-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. The Red Sox scored all eight runs in the first two innings off Chris Archer, who went four innings and fell to 8-7 on the season. Brandon Guyer led the Rays with a home run and three RBI. The Rays were without center fielder Desmond Jennings due to a sore knee.

Pirates Injury Update: Pedro Alvarez, Travis Snider


Last night, the Pittsburgh Pirates were able to pull out a victory against the Cincinnati Reds while not playing at full strength.  Both Pedro Alvarez and Travis Snider were unable to be in the lineup due to their respective injuries.

Orioles Injury Update: Steve Pearce exits with abdominal strain


The Baltimore Orioles won Friday's nights game handily, beating the Minnesota Twins 9-1, but they did not come out of the game without issues.  Steve Pearce exited the game early with an abdominal strain.  

Orioles Injury Update: Steve Pearce encouraged by MRI


The Baltimore Orioles entered Saturday night's game against the Minnesota Tiwns with a record of 77-56, a comfortable seven and a half games ahead of the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Orioles have been solid all season at the plate and on the mound, ninth in the league in runs scored and 12th in ERA. On the injury front, Steve Pearce got some encouraging news, as an MRI on his abdomen revealed only a minor strain.

Yankees Injury Update: Jacoby Ellsbury has no damage to ankle


In Friday night's victory over the the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury injured his ankle in the ninth inning and may be unavailable as the series continues. 

Orioles Injury Update: Matt Wieters had LASIK surgery


The Baltimore Orioles entered a weekend series on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays with a record of 76-67, seven games ahead of the New York Yankees in the American League East. With 30 games left in the season, the Orioles are in good shape to close out the division next month, barring a collapse. On the injury front, catcher Matt Wieters, who underwent Tommy John surgery on his elbow in June, had LASIK surgery on Thursday.

Nationals Injury Update: Ryan Zimmerman steps up recovery program


An MRI on Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman showed his hamstring is healing well, reports Dan Kolko of MASNSports.com.

Reds Injury Update: Joey Votto still feels significant discomfort


The Reds are 65-69 and are 8.5 games behind the first place Brewers in the NL Central. Their best player, Joey Votto has been dealing with injuries for most of the season, as he's only played in 62 games this season. After being cleared to resume baseball activities earlier in the week, Votto is apparently still feeling discomfort in his quad, writes Mike Axisa.

Rangers Injury Update: Jim Adduci placed on concussion list


Injuries continue to hit the Texas Rangers as Jim Adduci has been placed on the seven day concussion list after being involved in a rough collision.

Braves Injury Alert: Jonny Venters to undergo third TJ surgery


The Atlanta Braves and Jonny Venters are hoping that the third time is a charm in his career.  Venters will attempt yet another comeback as he will undergo the third Tommy John surgery of his career on Thursday.

Yankees Injury Update: Masahiro Tanaka experiencing 'normal arm soreness'


New York Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka threw a 49-pitch simulated game in which he used all his pitches Thursday morning. Tanaka first reported only normal arm soreness that one could expect after pitching. In fact, CBS Sports.com's Dayan Perry said that Tanaka felt well. Jack Curry of YES Network, though, noted that Tanaka has returned to New York for arm strengthening exercises.

Pirates Injury Update: Charlie Morton rehab result


Charlie Morton looked to work his way back to the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation last night while pitching for the Altoona Curve.  In four innings of work, Morton allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six. He also threw 76 pitches in his outing.  He has not pitched since August 15th due to a hip inflammation injury.

Dodgers Injury Update: Hyun-Jin Ryu, Juan Uribe, Adrian Gonzalez


After an off-day on Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers got plenty of injury news for three players who they are counting in the final month.
