Diamondbacks Injury Update: AJ Pollock, Chris Owings


Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder A.J. Pollock hopes to continue his rehab assignment today with the Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate in Reno.  He has been on the disabled list since June 1 with a fractured hand suffered when he was hit by a pitch, as reported by Jacob Fagan of Sports Injury Alert.  Shortstop Chris Owings is also rehabbing in Reno.  He is on the DL because of a strained left shoulder, which Even Petzold of Sports Injury Alert reported on June 24.

Yankees Injury Update: Masahiro Tanaka expected back in September


As he progresses through each step in his rehab, it appears more and more likely that New York Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka will avoid Tommy John surgery and return to the mound this season as he recovers from his partially-torn UCL in his right elbow. Tanaka passed his latest test by throwing an abbreviated simulated game Saturday without any issues.

Padres Injury Update: Andrew Cashner, Cory Luebke


San Diego Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner will be activated from the disabled list and start Saturday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, reports Will Laws of MLB.com. Corey Brock of MLB.com adds that fellow starting pitcher Cory Luebke played catch last week for the first time since February Tommy John surgery:

Yankees Injury Update: Carlos Beltran returns to lineup


After missing three straight games with elbow pain due to bone spurs, the New York Yankees' Carlos Beltran is back in the lineup Saturday afternoon against the Chicago White Sox. The Yankees released the lineup late Saturday morning.

Astros Injury Update: Brad Peacock, George Springer


The Houston Astros improved to 55-74 with a 5-1 win over the Cleveland Indians on Friday. The Astros got strong pitching from starter Brad Peacock before he had to leave the game after five innings with pain in his forearm. The good news is that the injury doesn't appear to be serious. In other injury news, rookie outfielder George Springer continues to recover from a left quad injury.

Rays Injury Update: Jose Molina dealing with sore knee


The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday behind a 14-hit attack and shutout pitching from Drew Smyly. The win improved the Rays to 63-65, fourth in the American League West. The Rays were without catcher Jose Molina, due to a sore knee. Curt Casali started for Molina and went 2-for-5 with a run scored. The good news is that Molina's injury does not appear serious.

Giants Injury Update: Angel Pagan removed with calf cramp


Though San Francisco Giant outfielder Angel Pagan left last night's game in the ninth inning, it appears that he will not miss much time, if any at all.  Alex Pavlovic is reporting that Pagan left due to an apparent leg cramp.

Athletics Injury Update: Kyle Blanks to have MRI


The Oakland A's pulled to within a game of first place in the American League West with a 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. Coco Crisp and Alberto Callaspo lead a 10-hit attack with two hits each. Sonny Gray pitched 8 1/3 innings to notch his 13th win of the season. On the injury front, Kyle Blanks appears unlikely to return anytime soon, as he's dealing with problems in both feet. He's been rehabbing from a torn calf muscle. 

Red Sox Injury Update: Xander Bogaerts, Joe Kelly, Mike Napoli


The Boston Red Sox have had a very poor season due in large part to injuries. They suffered more injuries Friday night as Xander Bogaerts and Joe Kelly each left the game early, Kelly after throwing a pitch and Bogaerts after getting hit in the head with a Felix Hernandez change up. At least they should get Mike Napoli back in the lineup on Saturday. Here are the latest updates.

Yankees Injury Update: Carlos Beltran receives another cortisone shot


The right elbow is causing problems again for New York Yankee right fielder, Carlos Beltran.  After having stints on the disabled list and two previous cortisone shots, Caitlin Rogers at Pinstripe Alley is reporting that Beltran has had his third shot.

White Sox Injury Update: Adam Eaton to start rehab Saturday


The Chicago White Sox fell to the New York Yankees on Friday by the score of 4-3. The White Sox got all three runs on a Jose Abreu home run, his 33rd of the season. At 59-69, the White Sox are 12 games out in the American League Central. On the injury front, center fielder Adam Eaton is ready to take the next step in his recovery from an oblique injury, as he's scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Saturday. 

Mets Injury Update: Jacob deGrom to start Saturday


Michael J. Fensom of The Star-Ledger is reporting that the pain in Jacob deGrom's shoulder is gone and he is set to return to the New York Mets' rotation on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mariners Injury Update: Michael Saunders halts rehab due to illness


The Seattle Mariners entered a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox having lost two of three to the Philadelphia Phillies. At 68-58, the Mariners are eight games out in the American League West and still in the thick of things to make a playoff push down the stretch. In order for a serious push to be made, the Mariners need key components healthy. One player who could help is outfielder Michael Saunders, who has been battling a strained left oblique. Now the Mariners will have to wait a little longer for Saunders, whose rehab stint has been halted due to an illness.

Orioles Injury Update: Manny Machado will have surgery, out for season


UPDATE: According to Tim Brown of Yahoo, Machado will have surgery next week, and will miss the rest of the season. Brown also tweeted that small 'abnormalities' have been identified in both knees and will be fixed during the surgery.

Nationals Injury Update: Doug Fister had a skin cancer removed


Washington Nationals right hander Doug Fister told reporters (video here and below).after Friday night's 10-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants that stitches on the right side of his neck came from removing skin cancer, according to Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post. Fister, who said he was "good," threw 107 pitches in six innings, allowing four runs.

Brewers Injury Update: Kyle Lohse to start Monday


According to Joe Zenzola of Sportsradio 1250 WSSP, Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke says right-handed pitcher Kyle Lohse will start Monday against the San Diego Padres.

Rockies Injury Update: Michael Cuddyer still out with hamstring issue


The Colorado Rockies have had a dismal 2014 season in which they are 26 games below .500 at 50-76. Despite scoring the second most runs in the Major Leagues, the Rockies haven't been able to overcome a pitching staff that is 30th in ERA at 4.98. Injuries have also been an issue, as eight players are currently on the DL, with five on the 60-day DL. One key player that has missed much of the season is outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who has missed the last couple days due to a hamstring injury.

Athletics Injury Update: Craig Gentry activated


The Oakland A's, who have led the American League West for most of the season, enter a weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels in second place, two games behind the Angels. To battle the Angels this weekend and down the stretch for a chance to win the division, the A's will need all their pieces in place. The good news is that outfielder Craig Gentry has been activated from the disabled list.

Reds Injury Update: Homer Bailey, Joey Votto


Cincinnati Reds All Star first baseman Joey Votto has yet to start what the team calls "baseball activities," but he is jogging and the recent strength test results are encouraging, manager Bryan Price said, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of Cincinnati.com. From the same reporter comes news that RHP Homer Bailey, on the DL since August 8 with a bulging disc, has not yet begun throwing.

Braves Injury Update: Shae Simmons shut down with more shoulder discomfort


The planned Wednesday rehab start for righty reliever Shae Simmons, on the DL since July 27 with a strained right shoulder, has been postponed, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.
