One player who could provide a spark is outfielder Angel Pagan, who could go on a rehab assignment and return to the Giants soon.
Tampa Bay Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan is doing better and eyeing rehab games this week. He would like to rejoin the Rays on Friday after fully recovering from a oblique injury as reported by Marc Topkin.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Craig Gentry has been placed on the 15-day DL after suffering a broken hand. CSN's Joe Stiglich tweeted that Gentry has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture and hopes to miss just a couple of weeks:

The Houston Astros entered Monday night's game with a record of 42-63, fourth in the American League West. Although near the bottom of the Major Leagues in both runs scored and staff ERA, the Astros have shown some improvement over last year's dismal 51-111 record. One player who the Astros' organization hopes will be a major contributor down the road is Class-A shortstop Carlos Correa, who is currently recovering from ankle surgery. Although he's improving, Correa will not be playing in the Arizona Fall League.
Washington Nationals right fielder Jayson Werthtwisted his right ankle as he was thrown out at second base attempting to stretch a single into a double in the seventh inning of Monday night's 7-6 loss to the Miami Marlins (video here and below). Werth, who had gone 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI, was replaced in the bottom of the seventh by Nate McLouth. According to James Wagner of the Washington Post, manager Matt Williams said after the game that Werth expects to play Tuesday.

The Cincinnati Reds fell to the Washington Nationals on Sunday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Reds to 52-52, six games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. The Reds scored their only two runs on a double in the ninth inning by catcher Devin Mesoraco. On the injury front, Jack Hannahan was in the lineup for the first time all season, batting sixth. He went 0-for-4 in the game with two strikeouts.
New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has resumed baseball activities by taking batting practice in the indoor cages at Yankee Stadium. He plans next to take live batting practice on the field when the Yankees travel to Arlington to face the Texas Rangers. In addition, outfielder/DH Carlos Beltran has resumed throwing and outfield drills in preparation to return to right field later this week or early next week.
Chicago White Sox starter Scott Carroll was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins after six innings because of a blister on his right middle finger. Carroll had looked good through the first six innings but Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune tweeted that manager Robin Ventura said the blister had worsened to the point that they had to remove the right-hander from the game:
