Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira, Carlos Beltran


New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira continues to have issues with a sore wrist, which forced him out of Saturday night's game in the fifth inning. He will see a hand surgeon Sunday. In addition, outfielder/DH Carlos Beltran will consider surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow, thereby ending his season a week early.

Braves Injury Update: Jason Heyward to return by Monday


The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets on Saturday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Braves to two games under .500 at 76-77, second in the National League East. With eight games remaining in the season, the Braves are on the brink of elimination from playoff contention. On the injury front, right fielder Jason Heyward was out of the lineup again on Saturday and might not return until Monday.

Padres Injury Update: Abraham Almonte exits with left leg injury


Abraham Almonte of the Padres left Saturday’s game against the Giants due to injuring his left leg. He hit a ground rule double into right center and pulled up at first base. Unknown whether it is a hamstring or an ankle, which he has injured in the past.

Nationals Injury Update: Jordan Zimmermann hit by comebacker


The Washington Nationals dodged a bullet today in Jordan Zimmermann's start as he took a comebacker off of his right throwing shoulder.  He showed his toughness after by remaining in the game against the Miami Marlins.

Braves Injury Update: Mike Minor exits with shoulder discomfort


Braves left-hander Mike Minor left Saturday night's start against the New York Mets after one inning with left shoulder discomfort, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com. He was relieved by David Hale.

Orioles Injury Update: Steve Pearce scratched with sore wrist


The AL East Champion Baltimore Orioles have taken OF/1B Steve Pearce out of the lineup for Saturday night's game against the Boston Red Sox. The team says it is a precaution as Pearce deals with a sore right wrist, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN. Christian Walker is at first base, batting sixth.

Mariners Injury Update: Dustin Ackley out again with sore ankle


With the Seattle Mariners needing to win every game to stay in the playoff race, they will need to win tonight's game without Dustin Ackley, one of their biggest offensive threats.  Bob Dutton is reporting that not only is Ackley's ankle still a concern for this current game, but it could also pose a problem in the upcoming series against the Toronto Bluejays.

Cardinals Injury Update: Matt Adams, Matt Carpenter


The St. Louis Cardinals will enter tonight's game against the Cincinnati Reds without two of their major offensive stars, but it does not appear to be a major concern.  Matt Adams and Matt Carpenter appear to have a stomach bug and will be held out at least for tonight's game.

Twins Injury Update: Glen Perkins shut down for season


The Minnesota Twins have announced that closer Glen Perkins will be shut down for the season due to nerve damage in his forearm.  While this sounds like terrible news, general manager Terry Ryan told MLB.com that the news is actually "good news," for Perkins and the Twins.  It is an injury that can easily be taken care of.

Nationals Injury Update: Ryan Zimmerman activated


The Washington Nationals have already clinched the National League East and are one of the most feared teams in all of baseball, but they are about to get even stronger. Ryan Zimmerman has been reinstated from the disabled list and is expected to play in the team's final eight games of the season.

MLB Feature: Alex Torres and his cap


On June 21, 2014 San Diego Padres relief pitcher Alex Torres came into the top of the eighth inning of a game the Padres were losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 3-0. Torres didn't give a very good performance as he walked Dee Gordon, struck out Hanley Ramirez, and walked Yasiel Puig. Gordon scored when Adrian Gonzalez singled. Torres then struck out Matt Kemp and induced an Andre Ethier groundout. The Padres lost the game 4-2 and continued their entirely mediocre 2014 season.

Blue Jays Injury Update: Edwin Encarnacion undergoes precautionary MRI


The Toronto Blue Jays dropped to 77-76 on the season following a 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees on Friday night. With just nine games remaining in the season, the Blue Jays are six and a half games back in the wild card race. On the injury front, Edwin Encarnacion underwent a precautionary MRI on his back. His back appeared to be fine during the game, as launched a two-run home run in the first inning.

Dodgers Injury Update: Hyun-Jin Ryu will start throwing this weekend


Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu expects to start throwing this weekend in preparation to return to the rotation in time for the postseason. The Dodgers have already clinched a playoff spot and will likely clinch the N.L. West in the early to middle part of the coming week. Ryu may not pitch again during the season's final 10 days, but his chances of pitching in the postseason look better.

Marlins Injury Update: Bryan Morris done for season


The Miami Marlins lost the Washington Nationals on Friday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Marlins to 74-79 on the season, third in the National League East. With seven games left in the season the Marlins have an outside chance of reaching the .500 mark. They'll have to do so without the services of reliever Bryan Morris, who is done for the season with a lingering groin issue.

Astros Injury Update: Darin Downs exits with oblique discomfort


The Houston Astros fell to the Seattle Mariners on Friday by the score of 10-5. The loss dropped the Astros to 67-87 on the season, fourth in the American League West. Astros' pitchers walked eight and gave up four home runs in the loss. On the injury front, reliever Darin Downs left the game with oblique discomfort. 

Phillies Injury Update: Domonic Brown scratched


The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Oakland A's on Friday by the score of 3-1. The loss dropped the Phillies to 70-84 on the season. The Phillies got their only run on a solo home run by Ryan Howard off Jon Lester, who won his 16th game of the season. The Phillies were without left fielder Domonic Brown, who was scratched from the lineup.

Yankees Injury Update: Jacoby Ellsbury exits with strained hamstring


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday by the score of 5-3. The win was the third straight for the Yankees, who improved to 79-74 on the season. With nine game remaining in the season, the Yankees are 4 1/2 games back in the wild card race. There was some bad news coming from Friday's game, as Jacoby Ellsbury left the game with a strained hamstring.

Cubs Injury Update: Welington Castillo exits with bruised rib


Cubs catcher Welington Castillo left Friday's 14-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first inning after getting hit in the ribcage by a foul ball (video here and below). He is day-to-day with a left rib contusion, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Castillo was replaced by September callup Rafael Lopez.

Nationals Injury Update: Ryan Zimmerman expected back Saturday


Ryan Zimmerman is expected join Washington Nationals in Miami on Saturday if all goes well in his final rehab game, reports Mark Zuckerman of Nats Insider. It's an open question what position the veteran third baseman will play for the NL East champions.

Marlins Injury Update: Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Fernandez


Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton and starting pitcher Jose Fernandez both suffered serious injuries in 2014 -- Stanton just a week ago and Fernandez early in the season. Both, though, are expected to make full recoveries and return to their All-Star forms in 2015. Stanton should play a full season next year, and Fernandez could return by the second half.
