Red Sox Injury Update: David Ross to be activated


The Boston Red Sox entered Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels in last place in the American League East at 56-68.  Not much has gone right for the defending World Series champions, as they are near the bottom of the Major Leagues in runs scored and bottom third in ERA. There is some good news on the injury front, as catcher David Ross will be activated today.

Tigers Injury Update: Andy Dirks unlikely to return this season


The Detroit Tigers enter Tuesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 66-56 record, second in the American League East. The Tigers have struggled of late, losers of nine out of their last 14 games. At 22nd in the league in staff ERA, the Tigers' offense has had to carry much of the load. On the injury front, it appears outfielder Andy Dirks may miss the rest of the season, which would mean a totally lost season for Dirks.

Nationals Injury Update: Nate McLouth to undergo season-ending surgery


The Washington Nationals announced that outfielder Nate McLouth will undergo season ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, per James Wagner of The Washington Post.

Padres Injury Update: Andrew Cashner could return this weekend


San Diego Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner is expected to join the team soon and could possibly pitch sometime this weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to MLB Network Radio:

Pirates Injury Update: Andrew McCutchen activated


After being sidelined since August 5 with a fractured rib and cartilage injury in his left side, the Pirates announced that Andrew McCutchen has been activated and is the lineup tonight for Pittsburgh.

Mariners Injury Update: Felix Hernandez will start Friday


According to Bob Dutton of The News Tribune, Felix Hernandez will make his start Friday, as he was shocked that they were asking him such a question.

Reds Injury Update: Aroldis Chapman unavailable with 'achy' shoulder


The Cincinnati Reds dropped to three games below .500 at 61-64 following a 6-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. Logan Ondrusek allowed a run on three hits without recording an out in the 10th inning to take the loss. The Reds were without closer Aroldis Chapman due to aching shoulder after throwing 28 pitches on Sunday.

Red Sox Injury Update: Allen Craig starts rehab at Pawtucket


The Boston Red Sox fell to the Los Angeles Angels last night by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Red Sox to 56-68, last in the American League East. It's been a miserable season for the defending World Series Champions, who fell to 15 1/2 games back in the division. On the injury front, Allen Craig, who has been out with a sprained foot, began a rehab assignment last night at Pawtucket.

Twins Injury Update: Byron Buxton shut down for rest of season


The Minnesota Twins lost to the Kansas City Royals last night by the score of 6-4. The loss dropped the Twins to 55-68, last in the American League Central. The long, disappointing season for the Twins has paralleled that of their top prospect Byron Buxton, who has been shut down for the rest of the season following a concussion he suffered last week in a collision in the outfield.

Royals Injury Update: Salvador Perez exits with knee discomfort


The first-place Kansas City Royals removed catcher Salvador Perez from Monday's 6-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins with "discomfort in his right knee," according to  Dick Kaegel of MLB.com (video here and below). Perez was replaced in the seventh inning by Erik Kratz, who homered twice.

Mariners Injury Update: Michael Saunders to get more rehab at-bats before return


The Seattle Mariners lost to the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday by the score of 4-1. The loss dropped the Mariners to 67-57, third in the American League West. The Mariners are staying in the playoff race behind a pitching staff that leads the Major Leagues in ERA. The offense needs to improve on their 19th ranking in runs scored. One player who could help is outfielder Michael Saunders. But the Mariners have no intention of rushing Saunders back from his rehab assignment.

Athletics Injury Update: Craig Gentry ready for rehab


It was announced Monday by Joe Morgan of MLB.com that Oakland Athletics outfielder Craig Gentry is set to being a rehab assignment after fracturing his right hand.

Pirates Injury Update: Andrew McCutchen expected back Tuesday


The Pittsburgh Pirates expect to activate center fielder Andrew McCutchen Tuesday afternoon say MLB.com's Tom Singer and Stephen Pianovich. Tuesday is the first day of eligibility for him to return from the disabled list from his fractured rib suffered on August 2. It is not a guarantee, but it is highly possible.

Giants Injury Update: Hector Sanchez to be evaluated after another foul tip


The San Francisco Giants enter a series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field tomorrow with a record of 65-58, second in the National League West. At three and a half games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers with 39 games left, the Giants have time to make a run. But they need better production from an offense that is 22nd in the league in runs scored. They also need to remain healthy, something backup catcher Hector Sanchez has been unable to do. His bad luck continued over the weekend after taking a foul ball to the head and will be evaluated for a concussion.

Reds Injury Update: Bradon Phillips and Logan Ondrusek activated


After dropping a double header on Sunday, the Cincinnati Reds have activated both Brandon Phillips and Logan Ondrusek for a crucial series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Diamondbacks Injury Update: Chris Owings starts rehab


Arizona Diamondbacks rookie shortstop, Chris Owings, has not played a game since June 25th due to a shoulder injury.  But he began the comeback trail yesterday while starting at shortstop in the Arizona Rookie League. 

Cubs Injury Update: Chris Coghlan out with sore toe


The Chicago Cubs entered today's game against the New York Mets coming off a 2-1 win on Sunday. With a record of 53-70, the Cubs are last in the National League Central. The Cubs are without outfielder Chris Coghlan with a toe injury. It's not good news for the Cubs, who have already been struggling offensively, ranked 27th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. Arismendy Alcantara is playing today for Coghlan and leading off.

Rays Injury Update: David DeJesus, Wil Myers


The Tampa Bay Rays lost to the New York Yankees on Sunday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Rays to 61-63, fourth in the American League East. With 38 games in the season, there is little time to get back in the race. The eventual return of David DeJesus and Wil Myers could provide the offensive spark the Rays need. Myers is improving in his rehab, while DeJesus took a minor step backwards

Pirates Injury Update: Starling Marte, Josh Harrison


The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the Washington Nationals on Sunday in 11 innings by the score of 6-5. The loss dropped the Pirates to 64-60 on the season, third in the National League Central. The Pirates are still in good position to make a run at the post season with 38 games left, but need better performance from a staff that is 16th in the league in ERA. There was some minor injury concern that came out of the loss, as Josh Harrison and Starling Marte both dinged themselves on slides.

Brewers Injury Update: Aramis Ramirez dealing with minor hamstring tightness


Originally, when Aramis Ramirez left Sunday's game early, it was said to just be a manager's decision, but Tom Haudricourt is now reporting that Ramirez is dealing with some hamstring tightness.
