Padres Injury Update: Carlos Quentin, Yonder Alonso

Despite having the third best team ERA in the Major Leagues, the San Diego Padres are 65-71 on the season, third in the National League West. A big reason is a woeful offense that is 30th in runs scored, and that lack of offense is in part due to injuries to key players such as Carlos Quentin and Yonder Alonso, who have both been transferred to the 60-day DL and are likely out for the rest of the season.

Dodgers Injury Report: Paco Rodriguez ready for bullpen

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Washington Nationals on Monday by the score of 6-4. The loss was the fourth in the last seven games for the Dodgers. Even with the current slump, the Dodgers are 77-61, two games ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. There is good news that could help the bullpen during the stretch run, as Paco Rodriguez, who has been out nearly a month, is ready for a bullpen session.

Rockies Injury Update: Boone Logan transferred to 60-day DL

The Colorado Rockies defeated the San Francisco Giants on Monday by the score of 10-9. The win was only the 55th on the season for the Rockies, despite ranking fourth in the Major Leagues in runs scored. The pitching staff, which is 30th in team ERA, is a major reason the Rockies are 25 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. On the injury front, pitcher Boone Logan, who is one of six Rockies' pitchers on the DL, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Mets Injury Update: Bobby Parnell progressing as planned

The New York Mets fell to 64-74 on the season following a 9-6 loss to the Miami Marlins on Monday. With 24 games left in the season, the Mets are struggling to stay out of last place in the National League East. A glimmer of hope for next season is the pitching staff, which is 11th in the Major Leagues in ERA at 3.57. One pitcher who hopes to return to bolster the bullpen in 2015 is reliever Bobby Parnell, who is progressing as scheduled in his return from elbow surgery.

Nationals Injury Update: Adam LaRoche exits with back pain

Due to back pain, first baseman Adam LaRoche was removed for pinch hitter Kevin Frandsen in the 7th inning of the Nationals' 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Frandsen remained in the game at first base.

Phillies Injury Update: Mike Adams activated

The Philadelphia Phillies have struggled to a 63-74 record this season, but have won nine of their last 13 games. A bright spot was a combined no-hitter from Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman, Ken Giles and Jonathan Papelbon today against the Atlanta Braves. Although far from playoff contention, the Phillies hope to have a strong September to build upon for next season. One pitcher looking to stay healthy and contribute is veteran reliever Mike Adams, who has been activated from the disabled list.

Twins Injury Update: Joe Mauer aggravates injured shoulder

The Minnesota Twins defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday by the score of 6-4. The win improved the Twins to 60-77, last in the American League Central. Joe Mauer lead the Twins' attack going 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. The bad news is that he aggravated a shoulder injury. Mauer played the entire game as the designated hitter and there is no word if he'll need to miss any time.

As the Baltimore Orioles enter September, they may be another player down.  After losing Manny Machado and Steve Pearce, shortstop J.J. Hardy left today's game against the Minnesota Twins with apparent back spasms.

Cubs Injury Update: Anthony Rizzo may get MRI on back

With the very nice news of Jorge Soler making his Wrigley Field debut on Labor Day comes the not-so-nice news about another Chicago Cubs fan favorite, first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat of MLB.com tweeted that Rizzo will sit out again Monday, and he will possibly need an MRI to determine the source and extent of his back problem. Chris Valaika is playing first base for the sixth straight game.

Mariners Injury Update: Willie Bloomquist transferred to 60-day DL

The Seattle Mariners enter a series against the Oakland A's today with a record of 73-62, third in the American League West. With 27 games remaining in the season, the Mariners are just a half game behind in the wild card race. Looking to be on all cylinders the final month of the season, the Mariners opened up spots on their 40-man roster by placing veteran Willie Bloomquist on the 60-day disabled list.

Marlins Injury Update: Henderson Alvarez exits in third inning

Miami Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez left Monday's game against the New York Mets in the third inning after thowing only 40 pitches and showing lowered velocity, according to Juan Martinez of the Sun Sentinal. He was relieved by lefty Brad Hand. The team announced Alvarez has a strained oblique and is day-to-day.

Pirates Injury Update: Stolmy Pimentel activated

The Pittsburgh Pirates begin a series against the St. Louis Cardinals today with a record of 71-65, two games behind the Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. The Pirates are geared to make a push at the division title during this final month of the season, as Gerrit Cole will start today and Stolmy Pimentel has been activated from the disabled list.

Cardinals Injury Update: Kolten Wong expects to play Tuesday

After passing all concussion tests following a collision with the ground on Sunday, St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong will undergo further evaluation Monday, but he expects to return to the starting lineup on Tuesday when the Cardinals host the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 2 of the series. Wong will sit out Monday, but he said he could pinch hit if needed.

Cardinals Injury Update: Michael Wacha begins rehab

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs on Sunday by the score of 9-6 and improved to 73-63 on the season. Although just 26th in the league in runs scored, the Cardinals managed nine runs, led by Matt Holliday, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Tied for first place in the National League Central, the Cardinals are keeping pace with a pitching staff that has an ERA of 3.66. The staff should get an additional boost soon, as starting pitcher Michael Wacha started a rehab assignment.
