Nationals Injury Update: Jayson Werth exits with twisted ankle


Washington Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth twisted his ankle as he was thrown out at second base attempting to stretch a single into a double in the seventh inning of Monday night's 7-6 loss to the Miami Marlins (video here and below). Werth, who had gone 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI, was replaced in the bottom of the seventh by Nate McLouth. According to James Wagner of the Washington Post, manager Matt Williams said after the game that Werth expects to play Tuesday.

Ubaldo Jimenez to begin rehab assignment


In the midst of a pennant race, the Baltimore Orioles received some positive news in regards to starter Ubaldo Jimenez who is set to make a rehab start for their Triple-A affiliate Tuesday, according to an article by Aaron Gleeman of NBCSports.com .

Braves Injury Update: Jason Heyward exits with back soreness


Jason Heyward left Monday’s afternoon game with what the team is callng lower back soreness, according to David O'Brien of AJC.com. Ryan Doumit replaced Heyward in right field and five-hole in the lineup. Heyward went hitless in one at bat as he grounded out to Yonder Alonso in the second inning.

Mariners Injury Update: James Paxton completes third rehab start


Seattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton completed his third rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday night, according to a release on the team’s website:

Giants Injury Update: Angel Pagan, Brandon Belt, Joe Panik


San Francisco Giants center fielder Angel Pagan could begin a Minor League rehab assignment this week and return to the big club before or soon into the Giants' next road trip, which begins on Friday, August 1. In addition, first baseman Brandon Belt is showing signs of progress from his concussion on July 19, and second baseman Joe Panik has recovered from his ankle sprain and will play Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Blue Jays Injury Update: Nolan Reimold activated


The Toronto Blue Jays have activated outfielder Nolan Reimold from the 15-day disabled list and will use him as a DH against left-handed pitching for the next few days says Barry Davis of SportsNet. To make room on the roster, the Blue Jays designated pitcher Esmil Rogers for assignment.

Reds Injury Update: Jack Hannahan activated


The Cincinnati Reds fell to the Washington Nationals on Sunday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Reds to 52-52, six games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. The Reds scored their only two runs on a double in the ninth inning by catcher Devin Mesoraco. On the injury front, Jack Hannahan was in the lineup for the first time all season, batting sixth. He went 0-for-4 in the game with two strikeouts.

Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira, Carlos Beltran


New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has resumed baseball activities by taking batting practice in the indoor cages at Yankee Stadium. He plans next to take live batting practice on the field when the Yankees travel to Arlington to face the Texas Rangers. In addition, outfielder/DH Carlos Beltran has resumed throwing and outfield drills in preparation to return to right field later this week or early next week.

White Sox Injury Update: Scott Carroll exits with blister


Chicago White Sox starter Scott Carroll was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins after six innings because of a blister on his right middle finger. Carroll had looked good through the first six innings but Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune tweeted that manager Robin Ventura said the blister had worsened to the point that they had to remove the right-hander from the game:

Padres Injury Update: Carlos Quentin, Jedd Gyorko, Andrew Cashner


The San Diego Padres have got second baseman Jedd Gyorko back, but another player has landed on the DL in his place: outfielder Carlos Quentin. MLB Roster Moves confirmed both transactionsMLB.com's Corey Brock had reported that Gyorko would be activated Monday, with Quentin hitting the 15-day DL with left knee soreness, while Andrew Cashner is moving closer to a return after a successful bullpen session.

Diamondbacks Injury Update: Cliff Pennington rehab result


The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Diamondbacks to 45-60, fourth in the National League West. The Diamondbacks have been plagued with injuries this season, as 11 players are currently on the disabled list. There is good news regarding Cliff Pennington, who began a rehab assignment, playing in his first game in nearly two months.

Rays Injury Update: Joel Peralta rehab result


The Tampa Bay Rays fell to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Rays to 51-54 on the season, fourth in the American League East. The Rays scored both of their runs on a two-run double by Desmond Jennings. On the injury front, there is good news regarding Joel Peralta, who threw a bullpen session on Friday and began a rehab assignment on Saturday.

Rockies Injury Update: Jordan Lyles rehab result


The Colorado Rockies entered Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a record of 43-60, last in the National League West, despite being third in the Major Leagues in runs scored. The problem with the Rockies has been a dreadful pitching staff that is 30th in ERA at 4.96. There could be some help on the way in the next couple of weeks, as Jordan Lyles made his first rehab start on Saturday.

Padres Injury Update: Ian Kennedy to miss start with oblique strain


The San Diego Padres have scratched starting pitcher Ian Kennedy from Monday's game against the Atlanta Braves because of a strained left oblique. The Padres, however, expect him to miss only this one start. Lefty Jason Lane will come up from Triple-A El Paso to pitch Monday in the series finale against the Braves.

Athletics Injury Update: Coco Crisp out, will have sore neck examined


Oakland Athletics center fielder Coco Crisp has left his team in Texas to travel back to Oakland to have his sore neck examined. He sat out Sunday for the second time in the last three games. MLB.com's Athletics beat writer Jane Lee reported the news after the Athletics' 5-2 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.

Angels Injury Update: C.J. Wilson, Josh Hamilton


Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitcher C.J. Wilson will make a rehab start with Double-A Arkansas on Monday, reports Matthew DeFranks of MLB.com. Outfielder Josh Hamilton is also back in the lineup and starting in left field on Sunday after missing Saturday’s game with a sore left knee:

Indians Injury Update: Lonnie Chisenhall, Asdrubal Cabrera


Cleveland Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall is out of the lineup for Sunday's finale against the Kansas City Royals after missing Saturday's game with an unspecified illness, according to the team's Twitter account. He was replaced by Mike Aviles. Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera is back in the lineup after missing five games with back spasms, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com Cleveland has lost four straight and is 3.5 games back in the AL Wild Card race.  

Rockies Injury Update: Troy Tulowitzki, Drew Stubbs, Justin Morneau


Colorado Rockies star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki flew to Philadelphia Saturday to meet with Dr. William Meyers to discuss the next steps in healing and recovery from the hip flexor tendon strain suffered on July 19. In addition, outfielder Drew Stubbs is day-to-day after twisting his ankle while hitting a home run, and first baseman Justin Morneau took batting practice Saturday for the first time since hitting the disabled list on July 14.

Rangers Injury Update: Nick Tepesch, Derek Holland


In the seventh innning of Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics, right hander Nick Tepesch was removed with left knee inflammation, according to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News. Tepesch, who is 3-7 with a 4.84 ERA (ERA+ 85) will be evaluated Sunday. Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest reports that LHP Derek Holland will make his 2014 debut Wednesday for Double-A Frisco to begin his rehab from microfracture surgery on his left knee. Holland is expected to return in late August or September.
