Mariners Injury Update: Taijuan Walker done for the AFL

Although Taijuan Walker was scratched from his Arizona Fall League start,'s Greg Johns is reporting that the Seattle Mariners top prospect is completely healthy.  He has simply decided that he will not to pitch anymore this fall.

Giants Injury Update: Tim Lincecum dealing with stiff neck

Right-hander Tim Lincecum didn’t go through a full workout Saturday because he woke up with a stiff neck, according to Alex Pavlovic. However, Lincecum is on the roster for the World Series and the Giants don't think his discomfort is serious.

Royals Injury Update: Yordano Ventura says 'shoulder is awesome'

Following his exit in Game 3 of the ALCS with shoulder tightness, concerns began about Kansas City Royals starter Yordano Ventura's availability for the remainder of that series. Now that he has had extra rest, Ventura is a sure bet to pitch in the World Series, which begins Tuesday night.

Royals Injury Update: Kyle Zimmer leaves AFL start after one inning

Kyle Zimmer has the talent to be the next star pitcher for the Kansas City Royals.  He is currently pitching in the Arizona Fall League and is showing why he is such a highly rated prospect as he leads the league with 14 strikeouts after his first two starts.  Today he made his third start of the fall and lasted only one inning before being removed.  Bernie Pleskoff is reporting that Zimmer's manager said he appeared to be 'tight' and didn't want to take any chances with him getting hurt.

Rangers Injury Update: Tanner Scheppers 'feels great' in bullpen session

Although he had never started a game in his major league career, Tanner Scheppers was named the Texas Rangers opening day starter to start 2014. Being named the day one starter was the high point of his season.  He has hit hard in four starts and then moved back to the bullpen.  Later elbow troubles, landed him on the disabled list.

Tigers Injury Update: Jose Iglesias should be ready for spring

When Alex Gonzalez is a team's best option to start at shortstop on opening day, it could be a long year at the position.  But that is the situation that the Detroit Tigers were placed in when starting shortstop, Jose Iglesias went down with injuries to both shins that caused him to miss the entire season.

Red Sox Injury Update: Mike Napoli will have surgery to address sleep apnea

Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli will undergo surgery for sleep apnea on November 4 according to Rob Bradford of  Despite missing significant time in the 2014 season for injuries to his finger, toe and back, this is the only surgical procedure scheduled.

Cardinals Injury Update: Yadier Molina not able to pinch hit

The St Louis Cardinals suffered a loss to the San Francisco Giants last night 6-3, ending their bid for the World Series.  The Cardinals only won one of the five games played during the American League Championship Series due in large part to the oblique injury suffered by star catcher Yadier Molina during game two Sunday.

Rangers Rumors: Rangers decline option on Alex Rios

The Texas Rangers struggled to 67 wins in 2014 and finished 31 games behind the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. Injuries were a huge contributor to the dismal season which featured an offense that was 17th in runs scored and a pitching staff that was 28th in ERA. One player who was plagued with injuries was outfielder Alex Rios, who will become a free agent after the Rangers decline the option on him for next season.

Astros Injury Update: Carlos Correa should be fully recovered by spring training

Although the Houston Astros finished the 2014 season with a record of 70-92 and 28 games out in the American League West, there was marked improvement of the 51-win team of 2013. This off season the Astros look for ways to improve an offense that was 21st in runs scored and a staff that was 25th in ERA. One promising prospect who could help the Astros in the not too distant future is Carlos Correa, who is recovering from a broken fibula. The good news is that he's progressing well and should be recovered by spring training.

Padres Injury Update: Josh Johnson plays catch for first time since surgery

The San Diego Padres won 77 games this season despite finishing 30th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. The strength of the team was a strong pitching staff that ranked fourth in ERA at 3.27. One pitcher who hopes to bolster the staff even further is Josh Johnson, who is coming off Tommy John surgery. The good news is that Johnson played catch for the first time in five months.

Athletics Injury Update: Stephen Vogt should be ready for 2015 after foot surgery

The Oakland Athletics suffered a rash of injuries in the season's final months. Were they to have made the divisional round of the postseason it may have been hard for them fully fill out their roster. With many set to heal this offseason, Susan Slusser is reporting that utility man Stephen Vogt should be ready to go when the season begins.

Tigers Injury Update: Bruce Rondon expected to be ready for spring training

The Detroit Tigers head into the off season having lost three straight to the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS to end their season. The Tigers scored just 10 in their three games against the Orioles following a regular season in which they ranked second in runs scored. A problem the Tigers need to address is a staff that was 24th in the Major Leagues in ERA at 4.01. A pitcher who should help is reliever Bruce Rondon, who is expected to be ready for Spring Training after missing all season recovering from elbow surgery.

Royals Injury Update: Yordano Ventura completes bullpen session, ready to pitch

Yordano Ventura left in the sixth inning on Saturday as the Royals defeated the Baltimore Orioles in Game 2 of the ALCS but the right-hander was optimistic that shoulder soreness would not keep him from making his next start. Now Jesse Sanchez of reports that Ventura complete a bullpen session and could pitch today (Wednesday) if necessary. His next scheduled start would be Game 6 on Friday in Baltimore.

Tigers Injury Update: Miguel Cabrera could have ankle surgery

The Detroit Tigers head into the off season having lost three straight to the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS to end their season. The Tigers scored just 10 in their three games against the Orioles following a regular season in which they ranked second in runs scored. On the injury front, first baseman Miguel Cabrera, who has been dealing with ankle issues, could have surgery to remove a spur in his ankle.

Cardinals Injury Update: Yadier Molina to have cortisone shot for oblique

With the Cardinals down 2-1 to the San Francisco Giants in the NLCS, All-Star catcher Yadier Molina will attempt a return to action (at the very least as a defensive replacement) and will receive a cortisone shot for his injured oblique, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.  A.J. Pierzynski caught Game 3 of the NLDS, but Molina was spotted in the bullpen warming up reliever Trevor Rosenthal.

Tigers Injury Update:Alex Avila is not retiring despite concussions

The Detroit Tigers finished the 2014 season with a record of 90-72, first in the American League Central. Their season ended following a loss to the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS, three games to none. The Tigers head into the off season looking to boost a pitching staff that was 24th in the Major Leagues in ERA. Another concern is the health of catcher Alex Avila, who suffered three concussions this season. Avila insists that he is not retiring, despite the increased risk of long term damage due to concussions.

Giants Injury Update: Jean Machi available despite torn fingernail

Any injury to a pitchers hands or fingers usually means that the pitcher will be unavailable, but Janie McCauley is reporting that although San Francisco Giants reliever Jean Machi has a torn nail on his pinkie fingers he will still be able to pitch during the rest of the National League Championship Series. 

Brewers Injury Update: Ryan Braun feels "pretty good" after BP

Ryan Braun's thumb was a topic conversation throughout the entire 2014 season, but it appears that in 2015 both he and the Milwaukee Brewers may finally be able to move past the lingering injury.  Team beat writer Adam McCalvy is reporting that Braun took BP yesterday for the first time since his thumb procedure and felt "pretty good," after.

Cardinals Injury Update: Team to limit Adam Wainwright's innings in 2015

After spending the 2011 season recovering from Tommy John surgery, St. Louis Cardinals ace right-hander Adam Wainwright threw 667.1 regular season innings and another 59 "high stress" postseason innings from 2012-14, but twice failed to get through the fifth inning this October. Consequently, the team plans to assess and possibly reduce his workload in 2015, reports Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
