Braves Injury Update: Jonny Venters shut down again with elbow discomfort


The Atlanta Braves are in good position in the National League wild card race with a little more than a month remaining, but they are in danger of falling out of the race in the National League East. One aspect of the team keeping them afloat is a pitching staff which is fifth in the league in ERA. There is some bad news on the injury front, as Jonny Venters, who has been battling his way back from elbow surgery, has again been shut down.

Braves Injury Update: Gavin Floyd won't throw for at least six more weeks


The Atlanta Braves entered a series against the New York Mets on Tuesday seven and half games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East. At 26th in the Major Leagues in runs scored, the Braves have relied on a pitching staff that is 5th in ERA. There is some news regarding injured starting pitcher Gavin Floyd, who will need at least another six weeks before he's able to throw. He should be ready for spring training next year.

Pirates Injury Update: Andrew McCutchen exits with rib discomfort


Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen, the reigning NL MVP,  was removed from Tuesday's 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth inning due to left rib discomfort (video here and below). The outfielder exited two innings after making a spectacular catch, according to Tom Singer of MLB.com. McCutchen was replaced by Starling Marte in center with Jose Tabata comng in to play right field.

Cubs Injury Update: Anthony Rizzo exits with lower back tightness


During Tuesday's match-up against the Cincinnati Reds, Anthony Rizzo exited early with back tightness.

Mets Injury Update: Daniel Murphy and David Wright out Tuesday


Mets third baseman David Wright and second baseman Daniel Murphy were out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves, according to Tim Healey of MLB.com.

Royals Injury Update: Yordano Ventura to miss start with back stiffness


Blair Kerkhoff is reporting that Kansas City Royals young pitcher Yordano Ventura will miss tomorrow's start.

Tigers Injury Update: Anibal Sanchez could be done for season after setback


Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez had a major setback in his recovery from a strained right pectoral muscle. Michigan Live.com's James Schmehl reports that Sanchez's Tuesday ultrasound revealed that the right-hander has torn the muscle and could miss the remainder of the season although that is not yet definite.

Tigers Injury Update: Miguel Cabrera likely back Tuesday


The Detroit Tigers enters a series against the New York Yankees tonight coming off a 13-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Even with the loss, the Tigers are 70-59 and only a game and a half behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central. The Tigers played without Miguel Cabrera due to a ankle injury. The good news is that Cabrera should be ready to play in tonight's game.

Nationals Injury Update: Adam LaRoche scratched with sore back


The Washington Nationals enter Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia Phillies coming off a 3-2 loss last night. Even with the loss, the Nationals are 75-55, seven and a half games ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. Wilson Ramos and Anthony Rendon accounted for the Nationals' runs with solo home runs. The Nationals will try to take game two of the series tonight without the services of first baseman Adam LaRoche, who is out with a sore back.

Yankees Injury Update: Brett Gardner dealing with sore ankle


Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner will not be in the line up once again Tuesday night as the Yanks start a three game series with the Tigers. Gardner has been out since Sunday.

Padres Injury Update: Carlos Quentin, Jedd Gyorko, Everth Cabrera



Manager Bud Black of the San Diego Padres said it's likely Carlos Quentin's season is over due to a bone bruise on his knee reports Jeff Sunders of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Second baseman Jedd Gyorko and shortstop Everth Cabrera are both out with hamstring injuries, but Gyorko's return is "close" while Cabrera's is at least a few days away.

Cardinals Injury Update: Shane Robinson, Matt Adams


St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams was not seriously injured when he ran into a railing after a foul ball in Monday's 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, outfielder Shane Robinson sustained a left shoulder injury (video here and below) that will almost certainly lead to a roster move, reports Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com.

White Sox Injury Update: Moises Sierra starts rehab


The Chicago White Sox, who begin a series against the Cleveland Indians tonight, are sitting in fourth place in the American League Central with a record of 59-71. They are coming off a 7-4 walk-off loss at the hands of the New York Yankees. There is some good news on the injury front, as outfielder Moises Sierra had a successful start to his rehab assignment last night at Charlotte.

Brewers Injury Update: Ryan Braun day-to-day with bruised quad


The Milwaukee Brewers pounded the San Diego Padres last night by the score of 10-1. The win improved the Brewers to 73-58 on the season, first in the National League Central. Aramis Ramirez and Ryan Braun homered for the Brewers who got three hits each from Braun, Ramirez and Carlos Gomez. There was a scary incident involving Braun, who collided with Padres first baseman Jake Goebbert. Braun is listed day-to-day with a quad contusion. 

Giants Injury Update: Marco Scutaro not expected to return this year


The San Francisco Giants fell to 68-62 on the season following a 3-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Monday. At five games behind in the division and second in the wild card race, the Giants have a good chance at a playoff push down the stretch. They'll have to do so without veteran infielder Marco Scutaro, who is likely to be out for the rest of the season.

Pirates Injury Update: Clint Barmes activated


The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped to 67-64 on the season following a 3-2 loss ot the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. The loss puts the Pirates five and a half games out in the Central Division with 31 games to play. On the injury front, veteran shortstop Clint Barmes was activated from the disabled list after missing nearly two months with a groin injury.

Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira sits with hamstring tightness


Pain and Mark Teixeira seem to go together like peanut-butter and jelly.  In last night's game, his cranky hamstring held him out of action for yet another game.  Mark Feinsand reported that while he could have played, sitting out was not the worst move for Teixeira.

Rangers Injury Update: Shin-Soo Choo to have season-ending surgery


It appears that Shin-Soo Choo's injury plagued 2014 plagued season is officially over.  Jeff Wilson has reported that Choo has a bone spur in his elbow and is finished for the 2014 campaign.

Cardinals Injury Update: Yadier Molina and Michael Wacha to start rehab this week


With just over a month left to play in the regular season, the St. Louis Cardinals are inching closer to getting back two huge pieces they may will need in order to catch the Milwaukee Brewers in the N.L. Central. The Cardinals  announced that catcher Yadier Molina and pitcher Michael Wacha will both report to Triple-A Springfield to begin workouts and rehab.

Rangers Injury Update: Yu Darvish unlikely to pitch again this season


In a radio interview with KRLD-FM/105.3, a Texas radio station, Rangers GM Jon Daniels addressed questions on the Rangers Ace Yu Darvish, reports Evan Grant. Daniels said that the club will be "extremely cautious" about letting Darvish take the mound again this year.
