Astros Injury Update: George Springer scratched Friday night

Houston Astros star rookie right fielder George Springer was a late scratch before Friday night's game with the Boston Red Sox due to discomfort in his right knee. L.J. Hoes started in right field and batted ninth for the Astros.

Yankees Injury Update: CC Sabathia to seek further advice

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia has canceled Monday's appointment with Dr. James Andrews in order to get at least two more orthopedic expert opinions on the condition of his right knee. Yankees beat writer for Bryan Hoch announced the news late Friday afternoon.

Reds Injury Update: Skip Schumaker to concussion DL

The injury bug has bitten the Cincinnati Reds yet again. This time, it is infielder/outfielder Skip Schumaker. The Reds' media relations department announced Friday afternoon that the Reds have placed Schumaker on the seven-day concussion list and called up utility man Donald Lutz to fill in the roster spot.

Rays Injury Update: Jerry Sands out for the season

Tampa Bay Rays left fielder Jerry Sands will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a strained tendon in his left wrist says Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. The announcement came late Friday afternoon after Sands went on the disabled list three weeks ago.

Padres Injury Update: Jedd Gyorko starts running

The San Diego Padres enter a weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a record of 40-52, third in the National League West. Although fourth in the league in team ERA, the Padres are woeful offensively, ranked 30th in batting average, runs scored, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. A key component missing from the offense is Jedd Gyorko, although struggling this year, was an offensive force as a rookie. The good news is that he is progressing in his recovery from plantar fasciitis.

Blue Jays Injury Update: Adam Lind DL stint shorter than expected

UPDATE: Ben Nicholson-Smith of has learned that Adam Lind may get to return to the Blue Jays lineup in late July to early August.
This comes as far better news than originally reported when the Blue Jays thought Lind might have to miss six to eight weeks.

Giants Injury Update: Ehire Adrianza returns from hamstring injury

Ryan Hood, of, has reported that the San Francisco Giants infielder Ehire Adrianza has recovered from his hamstring injury and has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.  Along with his activation they have also demoted outfielder Juan Perez to AAA Fresno.

Twins Injury Update: Joe Mauer not expected back after break

The Minnesota Twins enter a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies coming off a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. The win improved the Twins to 42-49 on the season. The Twins are trying to overcome a pitching staff that is 26th in the league in ERA. It will not get any easier for the Twins without first baseman Joe Mauer, who has been out since the beginning of July. It now appears that Mauer will not be ready to return right after the All-Star break.

Red Sox Injury Update: Shane Victorino resumes rehab

The Boston Red Sox enter a weekend series against the Houston Astros with a 41-51 record, fourth in the American League East. They won on Thursday, despite getting just three hits, a two-run double by David Ortiz and RBI singles from Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mike Carp. An anemic offense, which is ranked 27th in runs score could get a boost with the return of Shane Victorino. The problem is that Victorino has been slow in his recovery from back injury.

Phillies Injury Update: Cliff Lee expected to start July 19th

The Philadelphia Phillies enter a weekend series against the Washington Nationals having won their last four games. At 41-51, the Phillies are still nine games behind the Nationals and Atlanta Braves in the National League East. On the injury front, left handed pitcher Cliff Lee, who has been on the disabled list nearly two months, has made progress and is expected to come off the disabled list immediately after the All-Star break.

Dodgers Injury Update: Hanley Ramirez exits early again with shoulder problem

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez left Thursday night's 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres in the eighth inning with a sore right shoulder, the same problem that has bothered him all season. Miguel Rojas finished the game at shortstop.

Brewers Injury Update: Wei-Chung Wang hits DL

The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday by the score of 9-1. The loss was the Brewers' 10th in their last 11 games. Even with the free fall, the Brewers are 52-41 and remain in first place in the National League Central. After the game, the Brewers placed pitcher Wei-Chung Wang on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder tightness. 

Yankees Injury Update: Carlos Beltran placed on concussion DL

The New York Yankees blew a 3-0, seventh-inning lead against the Cleveland Indians by giving up nine runs in the last two innings. They fell to the Indians by the score of 9-3 and dropped to 45-44 on the season. Zelous Wheeler when 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Yankees in the losing effort. Matt Thornton and Jim Miller got hammered in relief, with Thornton taking the loss. The bad news for the Yankees began hours before the game, as Carlos Beltran was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

Rays Injury Update: Yunel Escobar, Wil Myers, David DeJesus

The Tampa Bay Rays enter a weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays with a record of 42-52, fourth in the American League East. The Rays are struggling offensively and are just 23rd in the Major Leagues in runs scored. Help for the offense could be on the way over the next several weeks, as Yunel Escobar, Wil Myers and David DeJesus are all progressing in their rehabs. In fact, Escobar will be ready to go on Friday against the Blue Jays.

Angels Injury Update: C.J. Wilson placed on DL with ankle sprain

Los Angeles Angels starter C.J. Wilson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right ankle sprain, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. The sprain has been diagnosed as 'moderate' and the right-hander will miss between two and four weeks:

Yankees Injury Update: Masahiro Tanaka has partially torn UCL, will try rehab

The news wasn't quite as bad as it could have been for Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees. It wasn't far off, either. As reported by Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, after being placed on the DL and undergoing an MRI on Wednesday, the Yankees' ace has been diagnosed with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, which he will try to rehab before considering Tommy John surgery.

Nationals Injury Update: Ian Desmond exits after HBP

Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond was removed from Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after he was hit on the right hand by a pitch from side-armer Darren O'Day in the 8th inning (video below). He was replaced by Danny Espinosa. Desmond went 1 for 3 with an RBI as the Nats lost 4-3.

Phillies Injury Update: Ben Revere sits with ankle soreness

The Philadelphia Phillies capped off a four-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a 9-1 victory on Thursday. The win improved the Phillies to 41-51 on the season. Rookie David Buchanan picked up his 5th win of the season. Ryan Howard had a home run and three RBI, while Jimmy Rollins added two hits and two RBI. Center fielder Ben Revere was not in the starting lineup due to ankle soreness. Tony Gwynn Jr started in his place and went 0-for-5.

Reds Injury Update: Brandon Phillips has thumb ligament tear

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips will undergo surgery on Friday to repair a torn left thumb ligament. John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer tweeted confirmation of the diagnosis and surgery:

Cardinals Injury Alert: Yadier Molina out 8-12 weeks with thumb injury

UPDATE: Rob Rains of reports that Mozeliak confirmed Molina will miss 8-12 weeks with torn ligaments in his right thumb. Molina will have surgery to repair the injury.
The news is devastating for the Cardinals, who will now have to hope Molina progresses well and is able to return by the end of the regular season. Catcher Audry Perez was recalled from Triple-A Memphis in the corresponding roster move.

ORIGINAL: St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak has called a press conference regarding All-Star catcher Yadier Molina's thumb injury, reports Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.  No other details are currently available, although the speculation is the injury could be serious.
