Nationals Injury Update: Denard Span exits after diving catch


After making a spectacular diving catch against the wall in the third inning of Tuesday's game against the Mets (video here and below), Nationals center fielder Denard Span was removed for pinch hitter Michael Taylor, who remained in the game, according to Chase Hughes of Nats Insider.

Angels Injury Update: Howie Kendrick, Matt Shoemaker, Josh Hamilton


UPDATE: Howie Kendrick is back in the Angels' lineup Tuesday night.


White Sox Injury Update: Michael Taylor dealing with knee soreness


The Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers last night by the score of 2-0. The win improved the White Sox to 72-84 on the season, fourth in the American League Central. Tyler Flowers provided the only offense of the game with a two-run home run, his 15th of the season. The White Sox were without outfielder Michael Taylor, who is dealing with soreness in his right knee.

Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira gets cortisone shot in wrist


The New York Yankees head into the final six games of the 2014 season with a record of 81-75, second in the American League East. At four games out in the wild card race, the Yankees are holding on to playoff hopes by a thread. The Yankees are hoping to have Mark Teixeira back for the final push, as he received a cortisone shot in his ailing right wrist.

Reds Injury Update: Mat Latos won't make another start


The Cincinnati Reds enter the final six games of the 2014 season with a disappointing record of 72-84, fourth in the National League Central. They are 28th in the Major Leagues in runs scored and a respectable 16th in team ERA. One pitcher who is done for the season is right-handed Mat Latos, who has been suffering from a bone bruise in his right elbow.

Mariners Injury Update: Roenis Elias out for season


The Seattle Mariners have confirmed that Roenis Elias will not return this season after an MRI revealed a strained flexor bundle in his left elbow. Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times tweeted the news on Monday afternoon:

Tigers Injury Update: Alex Avila returns to lineup


The Detroit Tigers fell to the Chicago White Sox last night by the score of 2-0. The loss dropped the Tigers to 86-70, a game ahead of the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central. With six games remaining, the Tigers still hold a good position in the playoff race. They saw the return of catcher Alex Avila, who had been out with a concussion.

Diamondbacks Injury Update: Aaron Hill dislocates tip of finger


Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill left Monday's game with a painful-sounding injury, with Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic tweeting that Hill came out after dislocating the tip of his right little finger on a slide into home:

Padres Injury Update: Odrisamer Despaigne, Tyson Ross, Everth Cabrera


The San Diego Padres entered Monday night's game with a record of 74-81, fourth in the National League West. Out of the playoff picture, the Padres have little to play for. At 30th in the league in runs scored, the Padres have remained respectable with a pitching staff that is third in the league in ERA. On the injury front, there is news regarding Odrisamer Despaigne, Tyson Ross and Everth Cabrera.

Orioles Injury Update: Nick Markakis back in lineup


The Baltimore Orioles lost to the New York Yankees on Monday night. Even with the loss, the Orioles are 93-63 on the season, first in the American League East. The Orioles managed just a single and struck out 11 times off four Yankees' pitchers. There was some good news for the Orioles, as Nick Markakis was back in the lineup in right field.

Pirates Injury Update: Pedro Alvarez could still play in NLDS


The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday by the score of 1-0 behind shutout pitching of Vance Worley and Tony Watson. The win improved the Pirates to 84-71 on the season, second in the National League Central. With seven games remaining in the season, the Pirates are in excellent position for a wild card spot. There is some potential good news on the injury front, as Pedro Alvarez could possibly be ready for the NLDS, should the Pirates advance that far.

Red Sox Injury Update: Xander Bogaerts exits with neck stiffness


The Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles last night by the score of 3-2. The win improved the Red Sox to 68-88, last in the American League East. It's been a tough season for the defending World Series champions, who are near the bottom of the Major Leagues in runs scored and ERA. During the game, shortstop Xander Bogaerts left early due to neck stiffness. 

Rangers Injury Update: Alex Rios done for season


The Texas Rangers enter the final week of the 2014 season with a dismal record of 62-93, last in the American League West. Injuries have derailed the Rangers, as 12 players are on the 60-day disabled list and only five have played in over 120 games. Alex Rios, who has appeared in 131 games, is done for the rest of the season with a thumb injury.

Reds Injury Update: Joey Votto's return uncertain


The Cincinnati Reds entered Sunday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals with a record of 71-84, fourth in the National League East. With the Reds out of the playoff picture, there isn't much for the Reds to play for. All eyes are on Joey Votto, who continues to try and return from a quad injury, but his return this season remains uncertain.

Tigers Injury Update: Anibal Sanchez on course for midweek return


The Detroit Tigers fell to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday by the score of 5-2. Even with the loss, the Tigers are 86-69, first in the American League Central. The Tigers are second in the Major Leagues in runs scored, but 22nd in ERA. They could get a boost this week, though, as Anibal Sanchez could be activated from the disabled list by midweek.

Orioles Injury Update: Nick Markakis still out with sore shoulder


Although Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis has been out of the lineup with a sore shoulder since getting hit by a pitch earlier in the week, there are no major concerns that the injury will linger.  Markakis has missed the entire weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, but Dan Connolly is reporting that X-rays showed nothing to be concerned with.

Marlins Injury Update: Marcell Ozuna exits with sprained ankle


Marlins centerfielder Marcell Ozuna was helped off the field in the seventh inning of Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals, reports Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald (video here and below). Ozuna was attempting to stretch a single into a double when he jammed his ankle into the bag. He was replaced by Garrett Jones.
UPDATE: 9/21/2014 3:45 p.m. The team announced that Ozuna has a right ankle sprain. X-rays were negative.

Astros Injury Update: Dallas Keuchel shut down for season


Houston Astros left-hander Dallas Keuchel has thrown his last pitch of the 2014 season says Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle. While that news might disappoint fantasy baseball players looking to get one more start out of him, the good news is that he is not injured. Because he has reached the 200-inning mark for the first time in his professional career, the Astros have decided to shut him down to save unnecessary wear on his arm.

Mets Injury Update: Dilson Herrera exits with quad strain


The New York Mets improved to 75-80 on the season following a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. Dilson Herrera went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. But he left the game for a pinch-runner in the sixth inning with a right quad strain. While there is no official word as to how much time Herrera will miss, he could be done for the season.

Angels Injury Update: Josh Hamilton has multiple cortisone shots


The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Texas Rangers on Saturday by the score of 8-5. The win was the 96th for the Angels, who have the best record in the Major Leagues. The Angels continue to play without Josh Hamilton, who has been out with a rib cage injury. The good news is Hamilton is improving and should be ready to return soon and contribute in the post season.
