Cardinals Injury Update: John Lackey to skip next start


Cardinals right-hander John Lackey is dealing with a "dead arm" and will not make his scheduled Tuesday start against the Milwaukee Brewers, reports Joe Harris of MLB.com.

Cardinals Injury Update: Michael Wacha throws bullpen


Cardinals right hander Michael Wacha threw a bullpen session on Sunday, reports Jim Hayes on Twitter. Wacha threw 30 pitches and felt great afterwards. Wacha was activated from the DL on September 5th, and has started two games since then.

Cubs Injury Update: Anthony Rizzo, Jorge Soler


The Chicago Cubs are without two of their big boppers, but that should change when the Cubs return to Wrigley Field on Monday. The Cubs expect to open their final home stand of 2014 with outfielder Jorge Soler back in the lineup, and they could possibly have first baseman Anthony Rizzo back early in the week as well -- although his return is not guaranteed for Monday.

Pirates Injury Updates: Charlie Morton to start Tuesday


Pittsburgh Pirates (82-67) starting pitcher Charlie Morton is scheduled to return to the starting rotation with a start on Tuesday.  He has been on the disabled list since August 18 with hip inflammation and a sports hernia. 

Mets Injury Update: Matt den Dekker is improving


A second set of X-rays taken of outfielder Matt den Dekker's  left hand were negative, he's feeling much better, and could be in the Mets lineup as soon as Monday, reports Danny Knobler of ESPN

Dodgers Injury Update: Matt Kemp replaced as precaution


The Los Angeles Dodgers increased their lead over the San Francisco Giants in resounding fashion last night by pounding the Giants 17-0. The Giants used a 24-hit attack, including a home run by pitcher Zack Greinke, who threw six scoreless innings to get the win. Matt Kemp, who went 3-for-4, was replaced for precautionary reasons late in the game after fouling a ball off his foot.

Mets Injury Update: Vic Black struggling with herniated disk


The New York Mets dropped to 72-77 on the season following a 10-3 loss to the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Although 22nd in the Major Leagues in runs scored, the Mets are a respectable 13th in ERA at 3.56. But there is some concern over the health of reliever Vic Black, who continues to struggle with a herniated disk.

Dodgers Injury Update: Hyun-jin Ryu to have MRI Monday


On Friday, in his second start after coming off the DL with a strained right hip, the left shoulder irritation which had sidelined Dodgers left-hander Hyun-jin Ryu for three weeks during the spring resurfaced. As recommended by the team doctor, Ryu will undergo an MRI on Monday, reports Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.  

Marlins Injury Update: Giancarlo Stanton to be evaluated Tuesday, could play again


Miami Marlins superstar outfielder Giancarlo Stanton suffered a terrible injury when he took a fastball to the face in Thursday's game with the Milwaukee Brewers. It appeared early on that he would miss the rest of the season, but Stanton and the Marlins have hopes that he can play a few more games before the season ends on September 28. A Tuesday evaluation could determine if that possibility exists says MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.

Indians Injury Update: Ryan Raburn exits with hyperextended knee


Cleveland Indians outfielder Ryan Raburn left Saturday night's game early with a hyperextended knee, as Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported:

Padres Injury Update: Will Venable out with back issue


The San Diego Padres entered Saturday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a record of 68-78,. third in the National League West. The Padres have struggled all season offensively, ranked 30th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. One of the many Padres who have had off seasons at the plate is Will Venable, who is out with a back injury.

Rangers Injury Update: Alex Rios, Jake Smolinski


The Texas Rangers do not have a healthy outfielder on the bench and are unsure if they will get either Alex Rios or Jake Smolinski back before the end of the season.  Rios experienced a setback in his ailing thumb when it became infected last week.  Smolinski is more likely to return, as he is taking batting practice after being sidelined with a fractured foot.

Red Sox Injury Update: Mike Napoli, David Ortiz


Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli and designated hitter David Ortiz are both suffering from nagging injuries that refuse to heal.  On Friday, Napoli sat out of the lineup because of a dislocated left ring finger and a sore toe.  Ortiz also sat out of the lineup Friday because of a bruised right foot.

Mariners Injury Update: Dustin Ackley sits again


The Seattle Mariners enter Saturday night's game against the Oakland A's with a record of 80-66, a half game behind the A's for second place in the American League West. With 16 games left in the season, the Mariners are in a good position to earn a wild card playoff berth. One injury that is a concern coming down the stretch is that of Dustin Ackley, who continues to be out due to a left ankle injury.

Nationals Injury Update: Jayson Werth back in lineup


Call it the flu, call it a scheduled day off, whatever you call it, Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth is back in the starting lineup for Saturday's game in New York after missing Friday night's 4-3 loss to the Mets, according to Mark Zuckerman of Nats Insider. The Nats are 9 games up in the NL East.

Astros Injury Update: Chad Qualls, Jesse Crain, Matt Albers


The Houston Astros hope to have closer Chad Qualls back by the end of the season, according to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle.

Pirates Injury Update: Starling Marte not starting Saturday


Pirates left fielder Starling Marte is out of the starting lineup again for Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs, but is available to pinch run, according to Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Marte was hit in the left elbow during Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Pirates enter play 2.5 games back of the St. Louis Cardinals for the NL Central. Travis Snider is in the lineup at LF, batting eighth.

Mets Injury Update: Daniel Murphy back in lineup


Mets All-Star Daniel Murphy is back in the lineup for Saturday night's game against the Washington Nationals, as reported by Eric Simon of AmazinAvenue.com. Murphy exited early after being hit by a pitch in Thursday's game against the Nats. He will again play third base, as regular third baseman David Wright is out for the season.

Yankees Injury Update: Carlos Beltran, Chase Headley, Francisco Cervelli


The Yankees' playoff hopes took a sharp dive when they were swept by the Baltimore Orioles in Friday's doubleheader, leaving the New Yorkers five games back in the Wild Card race with only 16 games remaining and six other teams in the mix. They are again without three key players, whose status is updated below.

Braves Injury Update: Evan Gattis out for weekend


Atlanta Braves catcher Evan Gattis will not be available for the weekend series with the Texas Rangers, reports Christian Corona of MLB.com. Gattis is dealing with strep throat and has not played since Sunday. Atlanta lost 2-1 to the Rangers on Friday, putting them three games back in the race for an NL Wild Card with 15 games remaining. Christian Bethancourt is behind the plate for Saturday's match.
