Pirates Injury Update: Charlie Morton rehab result

Charlie Morton looked to work his way back to the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation last night while pitching for the Altoona Curve.  In four innings of work, Morton allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six. He also threw 76 pitches in his outing.  He has not pitched since August 15th due to a hip inflammation injury.

Dodgers Injury Update: Hyun-Jin Ryu, Juan Uribe, Adrian Gonzalez

After an off-day on Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers got plenty of injury news for three players who they are counting in the final month.

Nationals Injury Update: Adam LaRoche dealing with back pain

Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche has been playing through back pain for a while, reports Adam Lewis of, and was scratched from Tuesday's game against the Phillies. The veteran said he's dealt with the issue "on and off" for years and expects to be available as the Nats visit the Seattle Mariners.

Astros Injury Update: Robbie Grossman out with ankle issue

After leaving Wednesday night's game with a twisted ankle, Houston Astros outfielder Robbie Grossman was not in the lineup Thursday night, and is currently listed as day-to-day.

Royals Injury Update: Scott Downs, Michael Mariot

The Kansas City Royals fell to 74-59 on the season following an 11-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Bruce Chen allowed six runs on five hits with two walks in the top of the 10th to absorb the loss. On the injury front, the Royals have activated pitcher Scott Downs and placed Michael Mariot on the 60-day disabled list..

Rangers Injury Update: Derek Holland completes final rehab start

The Texas Rangers fell to 52-81 on the season following a 4-2 loss to the Houston Astros on Thursday. Injuries have decimated the Rangers all season, as 10 players are currently on the 60-day DL, with 14 players total on the disabled list. There is a bit of good news on the injury front, as pitcher Derek Holland made his final rehab start last night and should be activated next week.

Cardinals Injury Update: Yadier Molina set to return Friday

While it is not yet official, Derrick Goold's tweet is some of the best news that Cardinals fans have heard in a long time.  Catcher and leader of the franchise Yadier Molina is on his way back to St. Louis and expected to be activated for tonight's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Rockies Injury Update: Boone Logan and Wilin Rosario to DL

The Colorado Rockies dropped to 53-80 on the season following a 4-1 loss to the Giants on Thursday. The Rockies are having a dreadful season, despite being fourth in the Major Leagues in runs scored. Numerous injuries and poor pitching have contributed heavily to the bad season. The Rockies disabled list got more crowded, as Boone Logan and Wilin Rosario were both placed on the 15-day DL.

Tigers Injury Update: Luke Putkonen starts rehab assignment

The Detroit Tigers improved to 72-60 on the season with a 3-2 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday. At two games out in the American League Central, the Tigers have a good chance to make a run at a playoff spot over the final month of the season. But they need to improve upon a pitching staff that is 23rd in the league in ERA. One pitcher who could help is Luke Putkonen, who has been out the majority of the season with a elbow injury. Putkonen made his first step back with a rehab outing at Western Michigan.

Blue Jays Injury Update: Brandon Morrow starts rehab assignment

The Toronto Blue Jays enter a weekend series against the New York Yankees on Friday with a record of 67-66, third in the American League East. At 24th in the Major Leagues in team ERA, the Blue Jays need better production from the staff in order to contend for a playoff spot down the stretch. One pitcher who may help is Brandon Morrow, who has been battling to return from a finger injury. The good news is he made his first rehab appearance.

Cubs Injury Update: Justin Ruggiano, Ryan Sweeney, Anthony Rizzo

As the Chicago Cubs continued their series of exciting prospect call-ups this season by giving Jorge Soler his first shot in the big leagues, some more established players are making space on the roster and in the lineup as a result of injury concerns. Both Justin Ruggiano and Ryan Sweeney have landed on the disabled list, while star first baseman Anthony Rizzo took a seat again on Thursday because of a nagging back problem.

Mets Injury Update: Daniel Murphy placed on DL

The New York Mets to do not appear to be messing around this season. Daniel Murphy has been placed on the disabled list with a calf injury and in a shocking move they have brought up 20-year-old Dilson Herrera to take his place.

Rangers Injury Update: Jim Adduci exits with possible concussion

Texas Rangers right fielder Jim Adduci tumbled over second baseman Rougned Odor and slammed his head on the track as the players chased down a foul ball in the fifth inning of Thursday night's game against the Houston Astros (video here and below). Adduci was removed as a precaution and will undergo further observation, according to the Astros' team Twitter. He was replaced by Daniel Robertson.

Braves Injury Update: Jonny Venters has a torn UCL

Atlanta Braves left handed pitcher Jonny Venters is 29 years old and has three major-league seasons under his belt with a 2.23 ERA and an All-Star appearance. But he hasn't pitched in the majors since the end of the 2012 season and if he wants to pitch again he'll need a third Tommy John surgery, according to David O'Brien of

Mets Injury Update: Vic Black, Daisuke Matsuzaka. David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Josh Edgin

Several injury notes as the Mets go for a series win in their set against the Atlanta Braves Thursday night: third baseman David Wright (neck, shoulder) is back in the lineup; second baseman Daniel Murphy (calf) is not, and the Mets are considering a DL stint for him and RH reliever Vic Black (bone spurs in his neck), according to Anthony DiComo of LH reliever Josh Edgin (bone spurs in his elbow) is likely to be available.
UPDATE 8/28/2014 9:30 p.m.: Vic Black has been placed on the 15-day DL with a herniated disc and  RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka was activated from the DL, per MLBRosterMoves.

Royals Injury Update: Omar Infante out with sore shoulder

Royals second baseman Omar Infante will not be available for the third straight game as the AL Central leaders attempt to sweep the Minnesota Twins and extend their four-game winning streak. Manager Ned Yost said Infante has been dealing with an inflammed shoulder for "two or three weeks," according to Dick Kaegel of

Giants Injury Update: Brandon Crawford out with shoulder soreness

The Giants will play the Rockies today, however they will do so with Brandon Crawford sitting out for a second game in a row. Crawford has been dealing with shoulder soreness for apparently quite some time now, reports Henry Schulman.

Angels Injury Update: Albert Pujols exits with calf tightness

In the seventh inning of the Wednesday 6-1 night's win over the Miami Marlins Angels first baseman Albert Pujols left with minor calf tightness (video here and below), according to Alden Gonzalez of The win put the Angels one game up on the Oakland Athletics for the AL West Division lead. The two teams meet Thursday night to begin a four-game set. Manager Mike Scioscia expect Pujols to play.

Cardinals Injury Update: Yadier Molina plays first rehab game

The St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday by the score of 3-1. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 71-61 and tightened the race in the National League Central. Adam Wainright gave up, what proved to be the game-winning home run to Ike Davis in the second inning. The Cardinals continue to play without All-Star catcher Yadier Molina. The good news is that Molina played well in his first rehab game for the Springfield Cardinals.

Rangers Injury Update: Alex Rios sits to rest ailing thumb

The Texas Rangers have had a terrible season in which they are 52-80, a full 27 games behind the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. They took some frustrations out last night on the Seattle Mariners with a 12-4 pounding. Rougned Odor hit a grand slam and Leonys Martin had three hits including a home run, to lead the attack. The Rangers were without Alex Rios, who was given the day off with a sore thumb.
