Dodgers Injury Update: Hyun-Jin Ryu will start throwing this weekend


Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu expects to start throwing this weekend in preparation to return to the rotation in time for the postseason. The Dodgers have already clinched a playoff spot and will likely clinch the N.L. West in the early to middle part of the coming week. Ryu may not pitch again during the season's final 10 days, but his chances of pitching in the postseason look better.

Marlins Injury Update: Bryan Morris done for season


The Miami Marlins lost the Washington Nationals on Friday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Marlins to 74-79 on the season, third in the National League East. With seven games left in the season the Marlins have an outside chance of reaching the .500 mark. They'll have to do so without the services of reliever Bryan Morris, who is done for the season with a lingering groin issue.

Astros Injury Update: Darin Downs exits with oblique discomfort


The Houston Astros fell to the Seattle Mariners on Friday by the score of 10-5. The loss dropped the Astros to 67-87 on the season, fourth in the American League West. Astros' pitchers walked eight and gave up four home runs in the loss. On the injury front, reliever Darin Downs left the game with oblique discomfort. 

Phillies Injury Update: Domonic Brown scratched


The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Oakland A's on Friday by the score of 3-1. The loss dropped the Phillies to 70-84 on the season. The Phillies got their only run on a solo home run by Ryan Howard off Jon Lester, who won his 16th game of the season. The Phillies were without left fielder Domonic Brown, who was scratched from the lineup.

Yankees Injury Update: Jacoby Ellsbury exits with strained hamstring


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday by the score of 5-3. The win was the third straight for the Yankees, who improved to 79-74 on the season. With nine game remaining in the season, the Yankees are 4 1/2 games back in the wild card race. There was some bad news coming from Friday's game, as Jacoby Ellsbury left the game with a strained hamstring.

Cubs Injury Update: Welington Castillo exits with bruised rib


Cubs catcher Welington Castillo left Friday's 14-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first inning after getting hit in the ribcage by a foul ball (video here and below). He is day-to-day with a left rib contusion, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Castillo was replaced by September callup Rafael Lopez.

Nationals Injury Update: Ryan Zimmerman expected back Saturday


Ryan Zimmerman is expected join Washington Nationals in Miami on Saturday if all goes well in his final rehab game, reports Mark Zuckerman of Nats Insider. It's an open question what position the veteran third baseman will play for the NL East champions.

Marlins Injury Update: Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Fernandez


Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton and starting pitcher Jose Fernandez both suffered serious injuries in 2014 -- Stanton just a week ago and Fernandez early in the season. Both, though, are expected to make full recoveries and return to their All-Star forms in 2015. Stanton should play a full season next year, and Fernandez could return by the second half. Dodgers Injury Update: Hanley Ramirez returns to lineup


The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs on Thursday by the score of 8-4. The win improved the Dodgers to 87-66, first in the National League West. A five-run seventh inning sparked a comeback to get starter Zack Greinke, who allowed four runs in five innings, off the hook. The game also saw the return of Hanley Ramirez to the lineup, who was out with an elbow injury.

Cardinals Injury Update: Shelby Miller exits after grounder to shin


The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 3-2 on Thursday night on a walk-off hit by Tony Cruz in the 13th inning. The win improved the Cardinals to 85-68, first in the National League Central. Shelby Miller started and allowed only a single earned run in six innings before leaving the game with a bruise to his shin.  .

Angels Injury Update: Josh Hamilton struggling with chest pain


Josh Hamilton just can't seem to get healthy. The Los Angeles Angels outfielder had just got back on the field after battling a shoulder injury but Wednesday brought another ailment, this time in the form of stabbing chest pain. Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times reports that Hamilton was absent from Wednesday's win, and indeed the subsequent celebrations, because of pain in his chest and right rib cage that caused difficulty even when breathing.

Rockies Injury Update: Nolan Arenado's season could be over


It is not often that players are sidelined due to pneumonia, but Rockies Gold Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado is on the road to recovery after the illness and his season may be over according to Patrick Saunders.

Indians Injury Update: Jason Kipnis, Ryan Raburn


The Cleveland Indians continue to cling on in the wild card race, with an extra-inning win over the Astros last night bringing them to four games back with ten to play. They will have to continue their chase without the services of Ryan Raburn, and potentially Jason Kipnis too. Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Raburn's season is over after it was confirmed he will undergo knee surgery, while Kipnis made an early exit last night with hamstring tightness:

Pirates Injury Update: Jordy Mercer returns from back problem


The Pittsburgh Pirates improved to 82-70 on the season following a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. With 10 game left to play in the regular season, the Pirates are only two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central and in good position for a wild card playoff spot. More good news for the Pirates was the return of shortstop Jordy Mercer to the lineup.

Red Sox Injury Update: Brock Holt not cleared for return


The Boston Red Sox fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Red Sox to 66-87, last in the American League East. The Red Sox have had a horrendous season following their World Series championship from last season. On the injury front, Brock Holt still is not ready to return from a concussion he suffered on August 25.

Royals Injury Update: Christian Colon placed on DL


The Kansas City Royals enter a weekend series against the Detroit Tigers just a half a game behind the Tigers for first place in the American League Central. With 11 games remaining in the season, the Royals are in good position for a playoff spot. To increase their post season roster flexibility, the Royals have placed infielder Christian Colon on the 15-day disabled list.

Rangers Injury Update: Scott Baker not ready for Friday start


The Texas Rangers defeated the Oakland A's on Wednesday by the score of 6-1. The win was just the 59th of the season for the Rangers, who has struggled through a dismal season. They are 20th in the league in runs scored, but have been hampered by injuries, particularly to the pitching which has contributed to a team ERA of 4.63. On the injury front, pitcher Scott Baker will not be ready for his next start on Friday due to an ailing right triceps.

Mets Injury Update: Juan Lagares may not return this year


The New York Mets dropped their 80th game of the season last night, falling to the Miami Marlins by the score of 4-3. A pitching staff ranked 14th in the Major Leagues in ERA is a positive moving forward, but the Mets need to improve upon their 21st ranked offense. On the injury front, there is question as to whether or not outfielder Juan Lagares will play again this season after Tuesday's right elbow injury.

Blue Jays Injury Update: Dioner Navarro sits after foul tip to mask


Toronto Blue Jays catcher Dioner Navarro took a seat on Wednesday after struggling with the aftereffects of a foul tip that struck his mask during Tuesday's game. Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports that Navarro's absence was precautionary, with the catcher himself saying he was feeling fine and had just got 'fuzzy' after the latest in a series of foul tips:

Braves Injury Update: Evan Gattis diagnosed with kidney stone


Atlanta Braves catcher Evan Gattis, who has not played since September 7, was diagnosed with a kidney stone exacerbated by the strep throat he has been fighting, reports Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
